New Phishing Alert—March 31, 2006
A new fraudulent email is being circulated from “John Hartman of Customer Service” with a subject line of “NOTICE FROM Navy Federal Credit Union” and addressed to “Dear NAVY FCU Client.” The email states that the “service(s) listed below, such as NAVY FCU Bill Pay and Services, will be deactived and deleted if not renewed immediately.” The email directs you to click on a link, “renew now” where you will be asked to provide information such as your ATM debit card number, date of birth and Social Security number. It further directs individuals not enrolled at “Web Banking” to enter their “SSN as Account # and account number as Password.” The email appears legitimate and includes a document reference number.

This is a phishing/pharming attempt – do not provide any personal or account information.

If you believe this has happened to you, do the following:

Change your Account Access password from an uninfected PC.
Ensure that you have a current firewall, anti-virus software and spyware detection software installed on your PC.
Run a virus scan on your PC, and clean up any viruses or trojans that are detected.
Change your Account Access password, again.
For your protection, we recommend that you carefully review your account transaction detail now, and on a regular basis, through Navy Federal Online Account Access; and immediately report any fraudulent transactions to Navy Federal.
Navy Federal will continue to monitor this situation

Hi All,
Thanks Dan.
I get one every few months from"Chase Bank" asking to click and update account information. I have never clicked to find out what is there but I have NEVER done any business with Chase Bank.

Probably also some info gathering scam.

yes I get that crap all the time too
with the mail I got this morning
I went to the site by going to the domain of the real company typing it into my browser
they already knew about it had the above information on their site.
which is good info for those that don't know.

getting much mail for persumed accounts that we don't have should be enough clue
to anyone to not trust any links from any un-solicited e-mails
but some still will learn the hard way.. just food for thought:)

Capital One
Wellsfargo
Chase Manhattan
are a few more..
I've gotten Chase on 4 different email addresses I have at the same time.

I'll get them from so called paypal and e-bay on email addresses that I don't even have listed with them any longer.

that's a sure sign they are behind times.:D most are listed as possible Spam because they pick many e-mail addys and mass mail them out hoping for a few marks ..
