New Phishing AlertMarch 31, 2006
A new fraudulent email is being circulated from John Hartman of Customer Service with a subject line of NOTICE FROM Navy Federal Credit Union and addressed to Dear NAVY FCU Client. The email states that the service(s) listed below, such as NAVY FCU Bill Pay and Services, will be deactived and deleted if not renewed immediately. The email directs you to click on a link, renew now where you will be asked to provide information such as your ATM debit card number, date of birth and Social Security number. It further directs individuals not enrolled at Web Banking to enter their SSN as Account # and account number as Password. The email appears legitimate and includes a document reference number.
This is a phishing/pharming attempt do not provide any personal or account information.
If you believe this has happened to you, do the following:
Change your Account Access password from an uninfected PC.
Ensure that you have a current firewall, anti-virus software and spyware detection software installed on your PC.
Run a virus scan on your PC, and clean up any viruses or trojans that are detected.
Change your Account Access password, again.
For your protection, we recommend that you carefully review your account transaction detail now, and on a regular basis, through Navy Federal Online Account Access; and immediately report any fraudulent transactions to Navy Federal.
Navy Federal will continue to monitor this situation
