Yup,new number in the book.(not that I ever call, hate the phone)

Me too, all we ever get is either insurance companies wanting us to change, or extended warranty companies wanting us to get extended coverage for cars we don`t even have anymore.

Kind of sad, I called the old number to test it this morning, got a message that it was no longer in service. Had it for 38 years, one of the few things my ex wife did not get in the divorce.

I still remember the land line number that I had for many years.

I have not tried to call it though.

I still remember the number we had growing up in California in the 60s & 70s,don't recall the area code though as we never needed it.

We are going to cancel our land line at the beginning of the year sometime. We never get any calls except from telemarketers as relatives use our cell numbers.

I do remember my house phone number from the 60's and 70's while growing up and actually, I have a remembering thing about numbers and therefore remember all kinds of stuff, number wise like mine and the wife's drivers license numbers, ss number's, the kids ss numbers, every address lives at, etc. Even other people's or business's numbers I have dialed. Kinda sad, huh? :)

When I was a kid, our number was 5486, then it went to 9-5486, then finally 479-5486

Were you on a party line (as a kid) John?

We were on a party line when I was a kid - about 10 houses on that line if I recall correctly. Each house had their own distinct ring. Sometimes you'd pick the phone up to see if you could make a call and someone would get a little upset that you had interrupted their call. Other times you'd be on a call and someone would pick up their phone and interrupt your call.

Our number worked the same - dial the last four digits and you could call anyone in the area. Long distance was expensive though and we couldn't call many of our friends (same school) because they lived outside the local area. A lot of them lived less than 10 miles away, but it was a long distance call.

We found a work-around though - you'd call someone in your area but almost outside of the area, then they would call the person (who wasn't outside their area) and relay the message.

It wasn't a big deal though - as my parents only allowed 10 minutes of phone usage per day. And the minutes did not roll over to the next day if they weren't used.

Besides, gas was so cheap it was usually less expensive to drive the 10 miles or so.
