So I have wanted one for a long time and my old one need replacing! So I dished out the cash and got a new canoe! My old canoe was a Coleman 17ft ram x canoe. Great canoe don't get me wrong, but it must weigh 100 lbs. So I cut the weight over half and and picked up a Nova Craft Prospector canoe in Aramid(kevlar) lite. Now I just need to wait 5-6 months for winter to end so I can use it haha!!

I have never been in a canoe...Always wanted to try one out but I'm not what you would call a strong swimmer & I keep hearing all the tales about how easy canoes are to tip.

Matthew - that is one shessy piece 'o kevlar!!! I'd love to get a canoe one day, but it's just not practical where i live.

I've had mine, a Winona, for over fifteen years. I go fishing almost every weekend during the spring and summer with it. Love it.

I finally bought one this year too. I have been canoeing since I was a little boy. With my father, and with the scouts. Done a few 70 mile trips as a boy. Been in some hairy situations a few times.

Lots of fun. Now I take scouts out on over nighters.

Tons of fun.

That looks great to me and quality canoes weight a bit (unless you spend A LOT of money)

Gorgeous canoe!
Been wanting to get myself one lately also.

Sweet ride!
A canoe float with friends is what prompted to me to shop canoes, then buy a SOT kayak after renting several. Lots of fun!

Thanks gang! Im itching to use it, I did a 10min test paddle before I bought it. Super stable even with my 110 lbs dog moving around in it. and I love reading canoe trip stories here on the forums.

Ive been in the odd tippy canoe but most are stable plus with some practice it become like riding a bike and you can stand and jump in it with out it tipping. I have friends that arent the best swimmers either but a life jacket fixes that!

This is true. There's a bit of a tradeoff and I decided to go with the less expensive, heavier and nearly indestructible royalex Wenonah Solo Plus for myself. Mine is about 60 lbs which I can handle just fine and it shrugs off rocks nicely. I don't worry so much with kids using it and banging it around but one day I'd love to splurge on an ultralight solo canoe for myself. The OP has one fine canoe right there.

Nice canoe! I don't think I would wait for spring to get it out on the water. There will be bluebird days yet.

I considered a royalex canoe for the durability a yet keep a lighter weight. But my new canoe in royalex would have been around 64lbs, thats 20 more then the canoe I just got. Not a big deal for me but my girlfriend would have a hard time with it. I sprained my ankle in May one a canoe trip and my girl friend was unable to carry the canoe. Luckily we had friends that came with us to help carry my stuff and my 100lbs Coleman canoe. But my sprained ankle meant I got to get a superlight canoe :D.
