Original Thread:

Had a digicam model but wasn't feeling the digicam. Sold it and bought a black g10 model yesterday!

Should be here either Thursday or Friday.

Anyone have a black clip for the knife?

Updated Thread:

Got the PM2 yesterday. It is built great; no blade play/solid lock up and the blade drops freely whenever I press the lock in.

As far as the clip goes the silver isn't bad at all with the black G10.

Best clip is a black one from a Taichung Spydie

I just got another Para2 that was made in the last 3 months and it has a black clip that has a new type of coating on it. It's not shiny anymore. It seems like DLC or Parkerized. The black clip I bought from SFO for my Native 5 LW is the same. It's like a flat black color. Love it.

Oh, ok. Have you considered heat coloring the silver clip? At least 'til they get more black clips in?

I tried this and ruined a clip. The clips lose their "spring" when you heat them up again. Not worth it IMO. I think you would have to heat it up and quench it again or something. If you just heat it and let it cool the springiness of the clip is gone. Titanium clips are another story.

I've done this to 2 clips now, both on a Para2, and haven't lost any springiness in them at all. They feel just the same as my other 2 Para2's with black clips. I think it comes down to how much heat you apply, it didn't take that much to discolor them. I considered quenching, but didn't first time I tried it and was quite happy with the result.

Hopefully this is the case as mentioned above.
But I would recommend avoiding the old black coated clips. They wear and chip very easily in short time.
I personally prefer a brushed silver Spydie clip.
The Taichung shiny black clips are by far superior woth regards to wear resistance.
I am happy to hear they may have changed the coating for new matte black ones as well. Maybe a Cerakote? I remember Sal mentioning they were testing various Cerakotes, but not sure if that was related to clips or not...?

Here's a black Taichung clip from a Chokwe that I put onto one of my PM2's.

PM2 should be waiting for me at the house. :)

I got my black g10 for 100 bucks and by far one of my favorite knives in my collection for edc. I try to avoid black clips as it scratches easily. Take some mothers polish to that clip and give it a shine and run with it.
By the looks of it my black manix 2 clip would be compatible with pm2, so maybe look for manix 2 clip.

Not all PM2's come with the same clip orientation.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Thanks! It's probably inevitable that if you love sharp objects this much, everyone ends up here :)

Spyderco's clip orientations seem a bit arbitrary to me. I have a Delica, Dragonfly, Native, and Stretch that came tip-up out of the box. My Tenacious came tip-down but it's Chinese made. Most of the Golden models I have looked at seem to come tip-up, except for the PM2s. I know that most enthusiasts prefer tip-up, and the PM2 seems to be most loved by enthusiasts, so ... does not compute lol.

Kershaw is even more random with how they configure their clips.

The PM2 works really well as tip down. It's very easy to pull the knife out and open it quickly with that big spydie hole there.

You can always have the clip bead blasted, would look good with the G10.

Complimentary pic :)
