I have been playing with some different geometry on my kwaiken/tanto models. This one was playing with the "Okissaki" style or long tip. Which is about 50% of the blade length. (Although it does not have a defined yokote.) I have named this model "Dokusei". Which translates to toxic.
I hesitate to call this one a kwaiken, with the full .285" thick 3V 7" blade and a nice full handle. It feels more like a small tanto. The distal taper comes to a VERY sharp point.

The menuki is an Antique Edo period piece. It is a shrimp with small shells. Metals appear to be Iron, bronze and gold. I was saving it for a special knife and it felt right on this one. The cotton cord behind helps you see all of the cool details it has.

Of course it is finished up with a matching bison wrapped, kevlar lined, Hartsfield style sheath.

Any comments or critiques are welcome.

Thanks for looking!

I like this one very much Ben. The long tip gives it a very graceful line. Superb workmanship as always.

Fantastic Ben,

Loving that cotton cord

Of course I like this knife. I'd like this one better without the swedge, Ben.

the two curves on the spine look really cool in the second photo. are there any defined parameters for the size of a kwaiken ?

Beautiful work as usual. Wish I could talk my wife into letting me get something from you for my 30th birthday!

I think this is my favorite knife you've made... rofl doesn't know anything other than RED and TANTO, ignore his comment :)

I'm going nuts over that profile..... and the wrap, and the menuki, and the sheath. :D. Mike

Just to be clear... I like traditional Japanese blade shapes because are made for function.
I DO like this version a lot!!
Shaddup, Sloth9mm!!! :D

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

That looks like a lefty? because the menuki is set to work as a palm swell for the left hand?

That is correct in most cases. This is double ground and I put the menuki on the Presentation side.

There can be quite a bit of overlap in length with a tanto or kwaiken. I am by no means an expert on the matter. My kwaikens typically have 6" blade or shorter My tanto are normally 7" up to 12" in blade length.
Almost always, my tanto feature a metal guard.

Mr. Mike cutting free hanging rope. Pretty pleased with the performance!

At first, after focusing on pic 1, I thought "without swedge would look really clean and traditional".
Then I focused on pic 2 and thought "man, that swedge really helps define modern traditional in Ben's work".

Where I netted out...love this knife with the swedge and the idea of the same without swedge.

That menuki is absolutely grand! I really like this design and this particular knife, Ben

Agreed on all counts. This is my favorite BRT design.
