Any chance of some new police variants being made anytime in the near future? I know the manix and chinook are the current big spydies but I think the police still has a lot to offer. Its long and slim and generally awesome.
Maybe:

g10 and s30v
titanium handles

compression lock

DLC coating

multi position clip

I would love to see this model updated, anyone else?

I grabbed this picture from a threat started a while ago on the Spyderco forums. I *think* Al posted it first, but stoped hosting it, and Civilian had it saved and re-posted it on in the forum. There seems to be quite an interest for a new Police.

You can read more of the thread here:

Glad to see there is some interest. I think vg10 flat ground would be entirely adequate though I am sure s30v would be prefered by most. Either way flat ground, and available in all three edge configs, clip really should be ambi, adjustable for tip up/down would be nice. If not possible then tip up, waved perhaps;-)>

My vote for g10 would be just about anything other then blue. Grey, tan, dark (non-army) green, black whatever. I think the lockback is great but I would be interested in any of the new spydie locks, I really like the ball detent but don't know if it could work on this model. Also, a variant with dlc on all the hardware.

my 2 cents

Much as I hate the thought of yet another Police variant to buy, the one in the picture is very nice. Just do it like that, don't mess too much with the format and produce it in the 3 blade configurations

I agree the one the picture is sweet. I would like to see the old standard though with a framelock and Ti handles, that would be sweet!

woah! can you imagine? it might be a bit blasphemous, but a framelock on the Police would be awesome. maybe they could remove the "POLICE" etching, use a framelock, flat-grind that bad boy, and call it the Police II. you can send me #1.

but all these mods wouldnt really make it a police then, would it.

I don't think any of the mods I mentioned would change the overall profile of the knife dramatically. To me what makes a police is the blade and handle shapes, not the lock type or clip options. Whether its called the police or police II or super duper police doesn't make any differeence IMO.

Hi Guys
What about a 50/50 Police in Carbon Fibre? left and right hand versions of course.

Only if the revamp how they do the carbon fiber. Benchmade or William Henry style CF is great but the original carbon fiber on the police was not nearly as nice, IMHO.

For a more expedient "new" model, why not a steel Police with a drilled handle for texture and weight savings? A flat ground PE blade would be nice as well, either in VG-10 or S30V. Also nice would be the option of tip-up carry.

Hi guys
there are some really good ideas here, but I think I would like the knife pictured in post# 2, different blade steels and handle materials are all good but you can't get away from the fact that the CO7 is just so good as a concept. All the rest is window dressing.

My dream Police model would be with olive-drab G10 handles, black s30v steel, left-handed, tip-up. Otherwise, the standard shape, grind, and lock.

--and then I woke up.

From all the "police variation wanted" traffic I've seen here, and on the Spyderco site, it would seem that the Police model would be a great candidate for a "custom knife shop" ala Buck. The customer could choose PE, SE, CE, blade steel, handle material, and clip side/direction.

There would be added costs, of course, but this might work well for all.

What do others think?

I agree with Phil, the "20th Anniversary" mockup that Al did looks great, I'd suggest we either change it to a "25th Anniversary" and push to get it as a sprint run in '09 or change it to "10th Anniversary" and push for '07, the tenth anniversary of the original G10 Police.

As for the "custom shop" idea, would be nice, but think perhaps it might be easier to implement with one of the US made models. I'd also like to see a Spyderco "kit knife". If nothing else it would give me, and I'm sure a few others, a deeper appreciation of the intricasies of building a locking folder.

How about a Police with an image of Thomas Edison etched into the side?

Call it the Inventor.
