New powerlock layout?

I just got myself a black powerlock yesterday. Damn, this thing really is great. When looking over the little user guide that came with it, I noticed that mine had completely different tools on it than the one in the picture. Then I checked web sites. Sog's web site has a different picture from mine too. Then I checked the 2003 catalog and saw the exact one I had. So is this a new design for 2003?

The differences are minor. Can/bottle open separate, with screwdrivers on the tips. Only new tool is the awl, from what I can tell.

SOG does make many different configurations of it's tools that differ from the basic model shown in our catalog. Actually, the "standard model" will change often and we struggle to keep our promotional material current. Most often, though, these "special" configurations are sold through specific channels. In the case of yours, it is likely the EOD PowerLock (with blasting cap crimper). See second picture down for that of the blasting cap crimper:

We've been seeing quite a number of these sold on eBay for dirt-cheep prices (far below the wholesale price level the US Military buys it at), meaning they are very possibly "hot" merchandise.

Don't feel bad or guilty if this is how you got yours. If I were you, I'd take the "what's done is done" mentality.

The "missing" parts you are referencing makes up the configuration the US Military requested for this EOD PowerLock. If you are interested in aquiring those missing parts, you can pick them up through our Retail Sales Department at 888.SOG.BEST or email them to get more information.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Been out of it for a long while now, but trying to make it back.
Has SOG put a polish finish on their multi-tools yet or are they the dull finishes? Just curious not that it makes much of a difference with the functions of the tool itself....Purely cosmetic. :)

Its not that theres anything missing...just looks like a different configuration. Either way, I'm more than happy with it. It does match that top picture you posted, but its certainly not the EOD model. And btw, I bought it right from 1sks, not anywhere sketchy. Thanks for the reply

Ron,

By any chance have you had a chance to bring up the possibility of a (Deluxe) POCKET PowerLock to Spencer? I STILL really think that such a tool would be an EXCELLENT seller for SOG!

Mark: Yes, SOG is polishing most models of our tools. We do have dull finishes for special contract tools with the US military. Good to see you again! :) It has been a long time.

Stype: Ok, so you didn't pick up one of those "eBay Specials." ;) "Configuration wise, SOG is always tweaking things, so to match the model you're holding up exactly with either the line art on your owner's manual (which is really out dated) or with promotional photography (which is moderately out dated) is just not going to afford a perfect match. BTW, 1SKS (our beloved BladeForums sponsor) is a great source (and wouldn't peddle "hot" goods)!

Dann (SOGman99): Now don't go holding your breath again till Spencer makes the products you want SOG to produce. Remember what happened last time? You held your breath for six years before ... never mind! ;)
