New prefix wished: Custom & Handmade Forum (others, too?)

Hi Spark,

We're having a discussion of the merits of constructive criticism and feedback in the C&H forum.

"The Virtues of Informed Criticism"

I'm not of the mindset that anytime a maker's work gets posted, it's up for discussion because it's 'on the internet'.

However, I'm also not sure the OP doesn't want feedback.

I opined if we had a quick Prefix title of 'Feedback' or 'Comments welcome' it may open a door that otherwise be left shut.

Part of this thread is to allow HOW a member ought to opine their viewpoint, and that's a topic we see regularly. We're aware.

This is probably a small change that can be made, but I feel it would go a long way to help point the dialog for those who choose this option. Even if this is a site-wide global prefix, it still would be valid elsewhere?

It would not be welcome elsewhere. We give out warnings or even infractions for comments in sale threads, usually with some variant of this message:

Do not post unnecessary comments in an Exchange thread.
Do not critique the seller or the item or the price.
If you aren't actually taking the knife, stay out.

People need to move their items without incident, not hear about how nice their items are, how broke people are, or what a deal someone is going to get. We understand it can be good-natured, but sellers need a quick, smooth sale. They definitely don't need to hear their item is overpriced.. Let the buyer decide.

ABSOLUTELY NO COMMENTARY OR FEEDBACK IN SOMEONE'S THREAD.

However, this rule is not in effect in knifemaker forums, where praise for the knife being sold can lead to orders for a similar knife.

Esav, yes you are right. Not best for all areas.

However, I noticed the Prefixes CAN be different for individual forums. Individual 'Production Knives for sale' has a completely different subset than Individual 'Custom Knives for sale'.

It does not have to be global.

No, it doesn't. Many are targeted.
