I would love to see Himalayan Imports selling axes made by the Kamis...anyones else?

What did you have in mind for them? I mean, how would they be different from ordinary axes? And you're talking about axes for wood chopping, rather than for fighting, right?

no set specs...whatever the Kami would like to make...thowers (for competition or fun of it), fighters to heavy choppers. Sure you can go buy a axe from OCS, some lumber co. or a custom maker, but I think it would be great to pick up my axe and see the H.I on one side and the Kami name and mark on the otherside, maybe a little brass inlay if they desired to put it in...seeing an H.I axe would bring in a whole nother customer that might also be interested in buying a Khukuri after seeing the quality of a marked H.I axe...the easiest thing for H.I to say is "No"

I'll buy pretty much anything that HI makes. An axe with a cho is going to look a little funny, though.

It's already been done, sort of.:p

I can't recall at the moment what they were called, but a search on axes, hatchets and 'Hawks would probably bring them up.
They were ugly little things.:barf:

The reason there won't be any axes, hatchets or 'Hawks unless it's a special order is the difficulty of getting a proper handle fitted in them.
I was gonna design a 'Hawk when the movie The Patriot came out but the handle logistics were just too much to overcome so Bill and I decided against it.
The kamis do best at what they do best at which is the khukuris. The other products are well made and with decent fit finish and temper but IMO the khuk still reigns supreme.

The khuk is an axe and a sword inn an knife package already. The axe logistice invlove boring or folding, and a forge weld or two. Tough to make from bar stock like they use, as axes are most often made from a thick chunky billet.

Now, I bet they could get a nice wide leaf bladed spearhead right...

They were called bancheros.

Pix in archives don't show up, but here's one from the "variants" section of the FAQ.

As I recall, there may have been more than one run of these--There was discussion about it, and it was decided to send over the heads only. Dunno if they actually got made or not.

Here's one they've already done:

This is the HI Bancharo. The blade is about 4.5 inches high and about 5.5 inches across. Handle is about 15 inches overall length. Weighs 32.5 ounces. The edge hardened up to khukuri hardness -- around 58 Rc I'm guessing and the thing makes a nice ring when you run a file across the edge.

This looks very much like something you would see in the village except the finish is considerably better on the HI version. BM 8/01

I have an HI Banchero. But mine is a lot better looking that that one. It's one sweet Hatchet/hawk. All I need to do it figure out how to attach the handle and I'll start using it.

Same here. Handle not attached well at all on mine, but the blade looks sturdy as hell.
