The Joe Pardue Utilitac 1A assisted opener is available now! This knife has an old favorite with an upgraded G-10 handle and our exclusive, Joe Pardue-designed Tactical Assisted Opening (T.A.O.) mechanism.

There are a lot of things I could tell you about this knife, but the best thing I can think to tell you is that the one in the picture is mine. I bought it as soon as I got my hands on it.

I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand, the manual Utilitacs open so smoothly and effortlessly that an assisted version seems unnecessary (though that doesn't mean I won't end up with one [or more]:D). On the other hand, I'm really glad that the Utilitacs are doing well enough that you guys have decided to expand the line.:cool:

I agree about how well the Utilitac open's but I might as well get one of these too. where are they available.

Pic is a little dark, is this one tapped for tip up right/left hand carry?

Sorry about that. This picture is actually my own knife tossed on one of the office chairs at the factory. I'm still not the world's most knowledgeable knife user, but I'm looking at the one from the picture right now, and it looks to me like you can switch the side the clip is on, but you're still going to have a tip-down carry.

TAKE NOTE ***
After reading this thread I searched the web to see where the Utilitac 1A is being sold. I went to images of the knife and I clicked on gearshout.net. My PC was immediately attacked by malaware. My malaware protection blocked it. The script that did appear looked Russian.

Not much info about this knife. I think the best thing would be if Ontairo gave away one or two here. Then we could get some info & feedback. What do you say ?
:D

OKC, can you measure the blade and handle lengths? I always thought that some of the Utilitac models (or mine, anyway) seemed to have considerably longer handles than blades, but in your picture, it looks nearly 50/50.

Overall, it's 7.125 inches, and the blade is 3" - the 50/50 appearance might just be what happens when I throw a knife on a chair and take a picture with my phone instead of getting the actual picture we took for press releases and advertising.

going to wait for a bit and see what people think of this but i love both my utilitac knives. hopefully as nice as its predecessors

Why tip down only? I think I can echo many others in saying that I was interested right until I saw that. The Utilitac II is great in a lot of ways and one of them is the 4 way reversibility, this should have it too.

It won't make any difference at this point in the manufacturing process, but most of this type of knife comes with 4 way carry unless it is a special design.

I have a UTII and love it. The fit, the finish, the operation... excellent. But I can carry it the way I carry all of my knives, tip up, with the blade firmly held next to the seam of my work pants.

The tip up puts the pivot down so no change (coins) work their way into the knife, and the knives seem to stay closed better when carried this way. After trying all positions and conditions, tip up works better for me with work knives as I am constantly climbing around, going up and down ladders, etc.

No tip up, no purchase. But, no worries for me... I still have another model of the UTII series I have my eye on since I have been so happy with the one I have.

I'll ask around. At the very least, I can tell you that I'm taking notes here for next time. The knife was designed by people who know far more than I ever will about designing a knife, but everyone appreciates feedback.

Just got mine yesterday, so far I'm really loving the ergonomics and design. The G10 handle is very grippy and tacky feeling, the blade shoots out with authority.

I wish it were tip up carry, but I can live with tip down.
