I bought a rusty old pick axe for a couple bucks at a garage sale this summer. I am wondering what it would be worth and what i should do to restore it?

there is something stamped into it but rust has filled it up. I am gonna soak it in vinegar over night, maybe I will post pictures tomorrow.

As far as Worth, I've never found a real market for them and they don't sell very well on Ebay. Just don't carry the same mythos as axes do they? But if its a nice older one I'd say its worth shining up to have.

looks like it will just be a wall hanger. i just took a wire brush to it and even though the rust is far from gone i can tell it says "6 drop forged" no other marks on it. i am gonna finish soaking it in vinager and post some pictures tommorrow if its done. thanks for the feedback

I've collected a few picks, but like Able said there's not much value placed on them. If it's vintage it will be better than a new one.

I have four interesting picks. One is an old Klein-Logan that has obviously had a new tip forge welded into by a blacksmith. Another is railroad pick from the Milwaukee Road (used to run close to my house). 3rd is old miners pick. I was pleased that House had a handle for that one. The last is from the long defunct Seattle Hardware (local connection). These don't see much work at home but I'll occasionally bring one along for a trail work project or habitat restoration project. If I have to swing a pick it might as well be a nice one.

A buddy of mine recently scored a nice Warren.
