Hi All,

Just a quick photo of two prototypes just off the bench.
These are handmades.
3" equal end in mammoth bark
5.25" Walden inspiration all dressed in sambar stag
154CM Blade Steel

I have some swedging to do, and bits of tweaking here and there.

Comments welcome..................................

Thanks

Pappy

Both nice knives workmanship looks to be good. To me the equal end main blade needs a long pull, starting at the grind line and going not quite half of blade length. Swedge to start a fraction of inch ahead of pull to end of spear blade. The long pull on the skinner blade of the hunter doesn't belong on that blade. To me it would look better with crescent nail pull. These are my thoughts and not meant to be a criticism..

Great Thoughts!!

That's the kind of stuff I like to hear.

Thank you!!!!

Keep Care,

Pappy

Very nice.. Be curious to see them when ya get finished tweakin

:thumbup:The hunter pattern is nice, as stated pulls? BUT I like them, "DIFFERENT" than most and the longer you look the more they grow on me! Maybe a little more defined swedge on main clip of Hunter as this adds eye appeal and is fuctional in the piercing IE gutting use IMHO.?

Now the equal end could definitely use long pull and swedge on main.

Just my .02 worth

Thanks, Shawn

PS: Both are GREAT looking Knives at any rate!

The Walden is just to die for!!!! I have been trying to find a Vintage Schrade 125OT and the knife in the photo would stop the search forever if it were in my pocket. Very Nice indeed!!!!

Ok, I just found the next one I have to have. The Walden is fantastic, gotta love the Stag! A swedge would really set it off! Let us know when to order!

Well, we really don't know if we will build it yet.
We develop protos and put them out for people to comment on.
Then factor in all the costs, etc.
And make the decision.

This thread is not a good place to talk about buying or selling.
It is for you to have a chance to influence what might be made and have some input.

Let's please keep it fun and informational. It's important that we do it that way.

I appreciate all the comments so far. Please, if you have an opinion, chime in!!

Keep Care,

Pappy

"Build it and they will come" Says it for me. It's a classic design that has been around a long time and you have improved it via ~fit & finish & materials~ I don't know the cost to build the knife or X amount of units but I do know there are people out there like myself who are looking for that little something nicer all the time and this is just that!!! My two cents...

Pappy,

Does the equal-end have one or two backsprings?

All I can say if you are going after an old style slippie like the equal end jack the you need to jump in with both feet and swedge those blades...lol. They are handsome knives.

One back spring on the equal end as it sits now. Working on a three blade with a possible true split spring. But that may be beyond my reach at the moment. We shall see.

Those blades do need swedging, major swedging.

What about shields??

Keep Care,

Pappy

Excellent. The slimness of that style with a single backspring will be a winner.
Two useful blades in a very pocketable package.

Be interesting to see a top view and see the "crinking" and how the blades nest alongside one another. A view of the spring and liners wouldn't hurt either. ;)

As we discussed privately, I think the hunter is a classic pattern, especially if you can scale it down to a more manageable size for daily carry similar to customs by both Erickson and Halfrich.

Period correct shields would be a nice touch.

As Elliott mentioned, it would be nice to see someone offer the hunter style in a smaller size. Personally for me , most that are offered are just to big.
I'm probably in the minority but for actual field use, I think if the knife is to big, it is more of a hinderence. JMO

Forgot to mention, I went to your website for the first time this morning and I am really impressed with the styles you are offering.

I understand, was really just putting that in for fun. You will put the notice in the appropriate place when the time comes I know. I agree that one slightly smaller would be great on the Walden. I like blades around 3 inches or slightly larger.

I like the Hunter alot. For me the size would be best in a Medium (but not too small). In this pattern I would rather have a larger size than one that is too small. Some will wear it on the belt in a nice sheath. Scaling it down too much would in my opinion detract from the usefullness of the pattern.

Ever thought of a Match Striker pull on the Clip blade of the Hunter?

I don't think the equal end needs a shield, someone else commented that that this really is an "old style pattern" and I think the scales being plain make a statement to that effect.
