There is a knife listed on the bay as a Buck new Prototype Knife with a 450 blade and Paperstone handle. Has anybody seen it and is it legit? I really like the look of this knife. I am not sure if i can list the item number but pm me if anybody wants it. My only problem is the knife doesn't look finished, the blade looks like it was blued and i wonder where it came from. I would love to see this knife go into production.

Never seen anything like it...and it's not from any Buck prototype manager that I know...

But it's not bad looking...I hope it's for real...(Only 22 hours left)... :p

BTW: There is no description whatsoever...How do you know it's paperstone???

Scroll down the ad, the description said the handle is a Micarta type material called paperstone.

I did, last night when you posted...There wasn't any (on my browser)...Now there is...

Since eBay and (PhotoBucket) changed over to Flash pics/uploading, I can't depend on any viewing, despite installing the latest Flash upgrade just two days ago...I can't even upload to PhotoBucket anymore... :grumpy:

In any event, my fab suppliers don't have anything called "paperstone", so i have no idea what it is...Let's see what Google says...

Hmmm...It seems to be a countertop material...and -

PaperStone, a ...post-consumer, recycled paper architectural surface material made with 100% petroleum-free, phenolic resins. Water is the predominant solvent...It is usually used in applications for level surfaces—table tops, counters, window sills and door thresholds.

The recycled variety—its principal form— comes in two series or standards: "original" made from 50% post consumer water and recycled paper; and "certified", 100% post consumer waste. PaperStone made from original paper fiber is also available.

I can see the reference to Micarta...This stuff appears to be resin impregnated cellulose + other strengthening fibers...

I like the shape, and the blade profile...Do you know the overall length, or the blade length of the 450???

The 450 is the Protege'.The blade was a more grey, satin finish of 420 and modified clip.
Which looks a lot like the one pictured. I think it came out in 98 w/ rubber handles. The handle pictured looks a lot like a 112.DM

Dave, do you have a link to a "real" 450??? The outline of this "prototype" does look like a 112...So it's a shortie... :(

(Now that I think of it, someone here posted a pic of a 450 blade in a 112 frame)...

I see he has a "reserve" on it...I'll make a 334dave bid on it just as a gesture, but I'm guessing he wants bigger $$$ for it than I'm interested in giving...

...But I may copy that scale/liner shape in a future 110 project...maybe in brass... :D

Buck is using paperstone on one of its model that they brought production of back to the U.S.A. I believe it is called the metro

You're right. It's used on the 759 Paperstone Metro. The other Metro is still made of aluminum.

Here's the blurb about Paperstone in the catalog:

"Paperstone -Certified is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council or FSC, Smartwood and the Rainforest Alliance. It is the only architectural surface on the market today made from 100% post-consumer waste paper and certified by these demanding third parties. It is the "greenest" architectural surface on the market today."
