So i just purchased this 124 yellow micarta i believe ..
I need some real solid info if possible.

Ive spoke to Joe houser and 2 other buck collectors and its a mixed bag of replies.

1 answer was could be worth in excess of $500 and its extremely rare
another it may of been a standard 124 and re handled..
Joes reply on the earlier pictures i sent him. Suggested it looks to have been handled at Buck and not some random person re handled.
But he has no info that buck ever made yellow 124 micarta.... so who knows ??

seems to have full blade very sharp. few marks on

id love to know the value, how rare, is the sheath original etc usual questions.

heres the pictures i took plenty.

That is one knice nife indeed. No idea on value-dont know much about 124's. Gotta be a couple hun though, standards are normally over 100 from what I see.

Thanks for the replys indeed its very nice. But thats all i Know for sure :)
I know two people on here have yellow ones maybe they will speak up soon

Skelator, that 124 is sweet... Nice pictures to... ITE ...   ... :)

I told a seller what i collected , and this is what she showed me.
I love the bulk of the handle. Not so keen on thinner handled 124s.

Cost me $150 ish. I wish i knew more about it.
I wont be letting it go in a hurry. :)
Few small marks here and their , the blade looks perfect to me.

Hey JB i had seen the first thread, thats why i knew two more members had the yellow versions.
However id not seen the second thread.

I would think my 124 was not a victim of sunlight white version, looks very deep yellow.

Either way im very happy to have it. Thank you all :)

Skel,

Just posting some info like you requested. I do think there were a few yellow micarta 124s made, is this one of them?

FYI, here are photo's of two more white micarta scaled Buck knives that have yellowed with time.

Hey jb
Lovely knives you have shown.
I see your point with the white turning yellow, but they look slightly patchy IE you can see bits of white on the handle, if you get my wording.
We probably will never know the exact truth :)
So i assume white corian 124 will not turn yellow, just some of the white micarta versions

Well, Skelator, the white micarta 124 has blades made between 1989 and 1991.
Your blade is from roundabout 1972. So it is impossible that you have a sun
bleached white micarta 124. Your knife has yellow micarta scales whoever it made
and whenever it was made.

It is a great knife you found and I would be lucky to have it in my collection.

The "yellowish" micarta 124's , were probably handled with the old Westinghouse white micarta, which was produced for years until Westinghouse quit making it. I recall "micarta" was originally developed by Westinghouse. Its use for knifemakers came into being in the 1960s & 1970s because it was cheap to buy on the secondary market, and the material didn't shrink or crack, and was impervious to water. The old Westinghouse micarta was known to yellow with age. I've seen alot of older customs with it as handle material, even seen some scrimshawed. In the early 1970s if you used white micarta, odds are it was Westinghouse. Buck developed their own "Buckarta" in the early 1970s, in red & black. The only "white" I remember being used was the 506 Lady Buck, and a lot of those have yellowed.

We are talking Buck knives here.....anything is possible, so don't ever say impossible. As an example the 2012 issue 124's were only issued in black micarta. However, one forum member here got Buck to make at least one in white micarta;). No matter what skelator's knife is made out of, it's very nice and I'm sure I'm not the only 124 fan who would love to have one to add to their pile:thumbup:.

FYI: none of my white micarta knives were ever left in the sun and they yellowed (so none are sun-bleached).

Well this has made for a interesting thread :)

Really appreciate the information and pictures thumbs Up

Whatever the story on the micarta..re-handled..not re-handled..the fit and finish is excellent!
