Well its been just too dang long since I finished up a knife and posted it. Kinda feel like a slacker. This puukko is going to be the first of my knives I give away. Its going to my best friend, whom I rarely ever get to see or talk to anymore. We've been friends since the 2nd grade, and he was my best man at my wedding. When we were kids he saved my life, quite literally, with a shot into the head of an attacking cottonmouth. (Dane was a terrible shot and I believe made it through divine engineering.) Whats mine is his, though he may not know it. He's down in NO toiling to rebuild, and no one is more deserving of my 5th. In addition I am showing a rehandle of a $2 ebay acquisition. Its a solingen blade, I left it as it was sent to me and it is razor sharp. The woods in both handle are curly maple, and walnut from the farm in Mississippi. In the rehandle there is also some zebrawood. Anyway here they are:

Those look great, Andy:D:thumbup: The smaller one has kind of a Buck 110 warmth to it. Wonderful job as always:)

Thanks Jake. I've made three sheaths for these two knives. All sucked, all trashed. Damn sheaths.;)

Well done!

I always have fun using local woods, or woods I can scrounge when traveling. It's fun to find the hidden beauty that others don't recognise.

Like getting the local librarian to let down her hair and finding she's hotter than any supermodel.

Nice work Andy, good job of jimping the spine on the little puukko. Love me some good old Solingen steel, got an old antler handled one tang stamped "schneidteufel". Asked a German speaking friend what that meant, and he said schneid is cut, and teufel is devil, so it apparently mean's "cuts like the devil". It does as a matter of fact. :D

You are right Howard. There is just something cool about using wood off the family property. My cousin Eddy made a bed out of that tree and it is off the chart gorgeous. Beautiful deep dark walnut. Just awesome.

I was going to regrind that solingen blade, but decided...why? Its friggin sharp as hell. That handle is VERY comfortable in the hand too. I may start using that little bugger as a new EDC. Damn me for changing my EDC every time I make a new knife.

Thanks guys. Hopefully I'll get busier in the shop and have more-a-coming soon.

Andy,
those look sweet...

Instead of a dangler, make a wraparound sheath...And if ya send me the knife I will make ya one...Then I will send ya the sheath when I am done with the knife (gratis)...Shouldnt be more than a year or two:D

Whats a wraparound sheath? I'll tell you what bro, you do a rundown on a wraparound sheath on this forum, and I'll send you the rehandled Solingen knife for your very own. Hows that?

wraparound...Folded... Dangler...All are the same thing (dangler just doesnt have a belt loop)

IOW I was suggesting that ya make it a standard sheath instead of a dangler...Yea I like those myself, but wanted to see what ya could do with another traditional design... I just had a moment there of airheadedness when the meds kicked in :foot:

See what I mean??

hmm new knife?? and just run it down?? nah you already know how to do it, and ya make them just as good as I can, I just didnt make myself very clear in what I was saying...Southern accent and all that ya know?? :D

Belt loop. Copy. Andy

By the way, the Southern accent is the highest form of English, as you well know.

Yes, you are both right. There's some plum trees around here (some crazy fruit- close to plum) with a highly grained wood I want to use. It cracks a lot though. I've noticed people living in Oregon sometimes gather drift wood from one of the large rivers or the seashore, make something from it, and never learn the name or where it came from. That always seemed special to me- both local woods and unknown exotics, possibly from overseas or far inland on the continent.

Hi Andy:

Those are very nice!

Grab Dave's offer. Trust me, you do want one of his sheaths.

Thanks gents. The grind on that puukko is my favorite of my own so far. Its razor sharp without ever being sharpened. Talk about a cutter. Cut the hell out of myself polishing the blade with sandpaper. Had to just stop polishing when I did because it was just too damn dangerous to continue. Dane is gonna love it I think.

It happens, smarts a bit, but it happens. Pain teaches caution, and mistakes are provided so we can learn from them. Teach others how not to make the mistakes, and they can skip the pain part. That's a good thing ;)
