Any opinions? I have a Quard AA2 and LOVE that light. i could use a few smaller bright flashlights to go along with it (for truck, home, ladies'car, etc)

i would say something that small and powerful i would opt for the 123 battery option. however the AA specs dont looks so bad either. of course i would use a lithium AA over the standard AA for better performance if i were to go that route.

EDIT: what i dont like about it is the preon deal. preons are not that bad when you only have a few modes but its got quite a few modes and it seems to me that its too much for a twist turn bezzil (sp)..

QUESTION- what is a good flashlight of this size (quark minis) that doesnt have the strobe and etc just low med high? i dont care for beacons and such

The MiNis have the same UI as the Preons. To get to those blinky modes, you need to twist on and off a bunch of times (6 maybe?) within three seconds before you get to them. They are essentially "hidden." If you don't like or want the strobe, beacon and SOS, you won't even know they're there unless you deliberately go looking for them.

I got a teaser e-mail regarding these mini lights today. I prefer a push tailcap vs. the twisty on/off of the mini. The flashing modes are well hidden,
I wouldn't worry about them. You need to cycle through the low-med-high twice. Love my Quark AA2, I find the moonbeam mode to be very useful, don't think I'll buy another light without that mode:) I'm considering the Quark AA as my next mini.

good points guys and yeah the moonlight mode was the seller for me. i go hunting with mine and the low light to barely light up the trail is awesome.

I cant wait either. These are the first lights that I feel can be a true pocket carry light with no need of a clip. :D

I got to handle them and their other new lights a couple of weeks back. I'm really looking forward to getting some of the Minis and that new RGB model for sure.

The other unannounced lights are also pretty slick. :D

what are some small AA or single 123 battery operated lights with a non tacticl push button? i dont the twist bezel for on and off with mulit modes. i also dont like the xtra crap like strobes, SOS and etc. can recommend one or a few? thanks

Most lights these days have the extra modes, especially ones in that size. I don't have any with a reverse (non tactical) switch that do not at least have strobe in there somewhere. The Jetbeam Jet I Pro V3 might be worth looking at though, since it has a reverse switch and is programmable, so you could set the modes to exactly what you want and not have to deal with the strobe and other stuff if you do not want. The new Jetbeam RRT-0 is a really cool little light that takes both AA and CR123 and does not have strobe in it, but it has a tactical switch and uses a selector ring to switch between brightnesses.

If you don't mind a twist to turn on instead of a switch, take a look at the iTP EOS series. The AAA version (A3) has been out for a while and is super popular, now with 9 different versions. The AA (A2) and CR123 (A1) are on their way soon. All three types just have low, medium, and high.

I have the AA tactical neutral white. Planning to run it on Li-ions to maximize its potential, but haven't been able to get a charger for 14500's. I'm not a fan of all the strobe and SOS modes myself. I'd say it's worth it especially if you can use the neutral white LED.
