Alright, fair warning, I need to vent and gripe.
I had a great experience with a manual Socom Elite and I really do like it and carry it. Solid action, detent, lockup and just a really great knife overall.
Now the griping. I bought the recently released Socom Ram Lock with the finger choil because I thought I might really like it. It was $545 for the smooth Titanium model.
This thing is a POS in general and even more so for a $545 knife!!! I wouldn’t even spend $200 on this knife.
The ram lock has HORRIBLE lock stick. The knife will not close on its own after I struggle with the Ram Lock, I have to help the blade get past a clear sticking point about 70% of the way closed. It will easily fail to open without significant pressure bc there really isn’t even a detent, which I’m not used to for a knife over $500.
The front finger choil is way too big and gives even less blade to work with. I think they used Andre the Giant’s measurements for the front finger choil. The jimping on the scales are rough and sharp, like they didn’t knock down the edges. The blade is far too thin compared to the overall thickness of the handle, it just doesn’t make sense at all???
There are literally hundreds and hundreds of knives under $200 with much better action.
Big time disappointment. I will entertain the idea that I got a weird lemon and all the other ones are great but for $545 this knife is unacceptable on many levels.
