New Randall SS blade

I just purchased my first Randall knife. It is a 25-5 SS blade with stag and nickel silver. At my age I decided to spend the grandkids inheritance money and give them something to pass along.
That being said I received the knife and it has streaks on the stainless blade running horizontally, about 2 inches long on both sides. The knife was not represented as previously owned or used, but maybe it was. Is this normal, or should it be buffed out?
Love the knife! I know now what the addiction is all about! I want another one soon!
Thanks, Bob

I recall what may(?) be a similar question a while back, in this thread:

That poster re-posted a similar inquiry in the Randall sub-forum ( http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Show-us-your-Randalls?p=11943222#post11943222 ). Here's that quoted post (#499), in that very long thread:

I just picked up my first SS Randall online #27 Trailblazer. Really a beautiful knife. I do have one concern. The blade has an inconsistent coloring of light and darker shades. There is a very pronounced line on one side. It almost looks like a shadow but it visable in any light.

Does anyone know what this is? Is this a deffect? Is this common with Randall knives, maybe part of the mfg process?

Hi Doc. You typically only see that on Randall knives with stainless steel blades; I first noticed it around five years ago, maybe a little less, and have owned a few (dozen) RMK's with that blade finish since. So, I'd say it's something in the manufacturing process; maybe the finishing compound used, a new steel make-up (from the manufacturer), the type of buffing wheel, or a combination therein. Typically I don't wipe off blades on new knives unless there's a need, but on some I have and most of what you've described polishes off pretty quickly.(...)

If you still have questions, you might re-post your inquiry in that Randall sub-forum linked above. That's where the fans of those knives will be looking, and if this has been seen before, they'd likely be able to explain what's going on. I get the impression it has something to do with the custom nature of forging those blades (maybe some 'layering' to the steel), and may just be part of that character; not necessarily a defect. But that's just my speculation... :)

And I'd encourage you to post a clear pic of your blade; pics always generate more & better feedback, more often than not. Good Luck!

Thanks David,
The picture looks just like my blade, so it must be normal. I will post to that forum after I take some good pictures.
Thanks again, Bob
