New RAT 3 Sheath Issues

I just recieved my first RATs, an Izula and an RC-3.

The knives are amazing, especially the RC-3.

My problem is that the RC-3 sheath doesn't fit well with the MOLLE clips it came with. Is it supposed to bend a bit and fit on at a funny angle? I'm not used to having to force things, should I worry about the clips breaking while wearing the knife?

Is there a "clean" way to attach this sheath to my belt?

Hey, do you have the rubber washers between the sheath and the Molle clip?

With those in place, you'll have a little deflection in the Molle clip, but not enough to be an issue.

I wouldn't concern myself with breaking those clips and sheaths any, that material is very strong and flexable. As long as the knife goes into and out of the sheath easily, you should be golden.

And welcome to the RAT pack.

Check out the instructions with your RC-3. You use the supplied paracord and clip with the rivets and make a set of paracord belt loops like this:

Don't bother with the tek-locks. IMO the paracord loops are far superior - more secure, less bulky, keep the knife to your body better and free!

Thanks! I'm sure this will be the first of many, especially now that I'm spending more time hiking and have learned, the hard way, of the limitations of folding knives.

And yes, I used the washers. I just expected a more perfect fit.

I saw that in the instructions, I'll give it a try.

You will need to get the TEK LOCS. They work for your belt.

You mean the ones that came with the knife, or the one that you have to order from Blade Tech?

The boot clip also works great for hanging it on your belt, and it's simple to attach.

I tried that, but it doesn't fit on my 1.75" belt. Also, it places the knife too high on my belt line and doesn't seem to press the knife into my side as well.

Thanks for the fast help guys!

The molle locks that come with it are not tek-locs. Sounds like a large tek loc might work great for you.

However, try out the paracord loop to see if you like that.

My belt is 1 5/8 and it fits a little loose. The clip in my RC3s measure to be 1.75 inches...so bend the leather a little and stuff in in there.:D

Also, might want to try using the boot clip with the knife and sheath in between your belt and your pants. Very secure, very tight, very high and concealed, if thats what you like.

They are very versatile sheath systems. (But I dont personally like the MOLLE clips that they come with. )

We are always listening and trying out new ideas for carry options. The MOLLE clips that coem with RC3 and RC4 are not the greatest for attaching to a belt simply becaues they are a bitch to remove and replace over and over. They are hard to get to. They are ok if you put it on and leave it on. The tek Lock is great for taking on and off repeatedly but it holds the kife out away from the person carrying it a little too much and thus it can become a snag problem if you are moving through a lot of thick bush. I like the paracord a lot just because it is so simple even though you still have to remove your belt to get it on and off quickly. We are trying to come up with a tek lock type mechanism that is easy to remove and replace (without removing your belt) but holds the sheath close to the carrier like the Molle CLips. Mike

Thanks for all of the help guys, I doubled up some paracord and lashed the sheath to the inside of my wide belt. It holds the handle so tightly into my side that it absolutely disappears. I can't believe how comfortable it is.

I received my RC-3MIL the other day and have been carrying it like this, Very comfortable, although I may end up turning it over.

Mine is a 1.75" Wilderness Instructor belt. Google their website and order direct if you want one.

The Wilderness belts are almost indestructable.
I have the Frequent Flyer belt and it is absolutely great . I highly recommend one of their belts.

I concur that the paracord option is the best for attaching these sheaths to a belt. But I've found horizontal carry to be much more comfortable, than vertical carry. In addition, Upright vertical carry is secure, but not that accessible with other gear; whereas handle down vertical carry is accessible, but not that secure. Horizontal carry is the best of both worlds IMO -- secure and accessible. You might want to give it a try.
