So I just got my new Rat 7 and I was batoning wood with it, then the blade bent. Has anyone had this problem? I mean it was a $97 knife so it shouldn't get f'ed up so easily.
Knots can do a lot of damage. They put lateral force on the thinnest part of the blade, even while you are hammering away at making the blade go in a different direction. I wouldn't automatically blame the knife. Knots are to be avoided.
I don't think you can fix it. To beat it back into shape will further fatigue the metal. I tried once with an AUS 8 blade and it just broke a piece out. You might call the maker and see if they will back it up.
1095 is pretty forgiving (I think that is what those are made of) but I don't know if it's that forgiving. If you will start a "help wanted" thread here, maybe one of the makers here can help you out. I don't think that Ontario is going to back you because that pretty much qualifies as abuse, but I would try anyway if I were you. Good luck and keep us posted.
Thanks Wooly, I'm not sure if I'm even going to contact Ontario, I mean it was my fault for trying to do something that it wasn't meant for. This is my first fixed blade knife so I figured it would be somewhat indestructible haha now I know.
