New RAT Cutlery dealer in Canada free shipping

question: why are they all called RAT C-3 or RAT C-4, am I missing something? I thought the normal name was RC-3 or RC-4

Free shipping, but isnt it cheaper shipped if you buy it from the states?

Did a little comparison and it looks like buying it from US would be about $20-30 US cheaper.

The benefit of ordering within Canada is that it's generally much faster and you don't have to worry about any extra charges from either the customs or the shipping service.

I paid $30 CDN to customs for my last knife(they marked the damn thing 'not opened', but charged me $8 handling fee and taxes anyway) and have paid $40 CDN to UPS on a $75 US knife.

Unless the difference in price is huge, I would prefer to shop from Canadian dealers, just not that many around.

If anyone has shopping experience with Workwear, please let us know :)

Good response 100eyes. Yes the bottom line is a bit cheaper ordering from the U.S. Looking at the prices and converting with shipping there is about a $15-20 difference but that doesn't consider the crapshoot of what customs may (or may not) charge you. Also, remember that Canadians pay higher taxes, both individuals and business. You can't expect a fair price competition dollars for dollars. This dealer is doing an exceptional job in my opinion.

The great news about the place is the speed that they can send it. You will be looking at 2-5 days delivery not 10-14 days delivery. I will definitely consider buying from them in the future. Like RatCutlery priding itself on building American, for me helping to support the CDN cutlery industry is something I consider good too. The number of on-line CDN dealers is still so small you can count them on your fingers and not run out of them.

Great stuff! Now, I wonder when they will get the Hest in? :D

This place is booked marked and I will definitely be supporting them with my business in the future.

I only bought a couple of Fallkniven DC4s at workwear, shipping is only free on knives so I had to pay shipping plus a the GST, it was sent really quickly arrived 3 days later on the other side of Canada.

It may not seem cheap compared to what US dealers offer but it sure is the cheapest I have seen in Canada, and yes not having to bother about customs and long deliery time might really make it up for the price.

I sent the owner an e-mail this morning. Just a little hello telling him about the link here and welcoming him as a RatCutlery dealer. He e-mailed me back within hours. His name is Paul, very friendly fellow. He even asked if there were products that I would like to see on his site.

Anyhow, I'm pretty positive I'm going to buy something from him. The Swanndri bush shirt is on my list of things to buy. I hope he has has some luck moving RatCutlery products this side of the border. He has two main lines of knives, RatCutlery and Fallkniven. I don't think you could ask for any better.

Awesome

I should definitely ask them to get some Izulas in, I think they'd sell great in Canada when acquiring them is quicker/easier. I could use at least a couple more myself, seeing how my black one's serial number is the same as my birthday and I don't want to use the little guy except wrapping him up in purdy paracord.....

I've got a HEST too, but I don't wanna use that guy either since it's one of the limited serial numbered ones...

Then if I get a Ratpack RC-3, that's one more RAT who's gonna be living the comfy life, lol.

I've talked to Paul a few times now via email. I've made him aware of Bladeforums and of this sub-forum. He seems like a really nice guy and a good vendor to work with. I believe he is testing the waters with Rat Cutlery products, to see how they perform and sell before he brings in more models. He is very positive about them and is excited to be offering them in Canada. KGD, I know what you mean about the Swanni. I've been after one for a while. Just remember, they are very generous in their sizing. I got a medium once and had to send it back. Too big! Anyway, I have workwear.com bookmarked and it won't be long before my first order. I guess I'll be splitting my money between Workwear and KSF;)
