Just purchased a new Schrade Walden on Ebay that is just like the one in item number 150161705486 and I am now wondering where this knife was made, USA, China? The insert inside the plastic tube reads very similiar to the descripition from the item number above as follows: Please Read: I've been trying to find out when and where these knives were made and a customer told me that these were made by Camillus under license from Taylor Brands after the old factory closed in 2004, he told me to read the inside wrapper of the tube packaged knives I sell, and after reading this, this makes sense, it says that the Ellenville, N.Y. factory closed in 2004 and production was moved to Camillus, N.Y., U.S.A., myself I believe this makes these knives a real collector's item because they were made in America and made by Camillus using the Schrade Walden name, not sure if these were made from left over parts or not. I also heard from one of my knife suppliers that Camillus went out of business too, but I'm not 100% sure of this. Does anyone know for sure where this knife was made. Thanks, Jamie.

Yes, I believe those knives were made at Camillus under contract for Taylor. This was after Imperial-Schrade dissolved, but while Camillus was still in business. If I recall correctly, although the knives are modern production the plastic tubes were original old-stock from Schrade-Walden. Just a bit of trivia.

In my opinion, those knives like your's are collectible as Camillus products, but have little value to a Schrade collector. Too bad they weren't actually marked with a Camillus tang stamp...

Oh well, they will make great gifts for a few of my friends that could care less if they were Schrade or not. With the tang stamped Schrade Walden, N.Y. USA they will think they have the real thing. At least they were made in the USA and not in China. Thanks Guys.

If made by either of those two companies, I believe it will make a very usable knife. If made by Camillus, it would be a Camillus collectable in it's own right. Bear and son is more likely in my opinion, mostly due to their continued appearance on the Taylor site. But he may have moved the production to China for all I know. Ask them at Taylor. They are generally pretty open and honest.

I will give Taylor a call and see what they say. If made by Camillus they might find it past my front door but if they were made by anyone else other than Schrade they will get handed out very quickly. By the way, anyone know where I can pick up a mint lb2 and a lb4, those are the last two I need for that collection? Just shoot me an email if possible. Thanks.

Just spoke to Shanna at Taylor Cutlery and she seemed very honest in telling me that Taylor did not make this knife but did give various knife makers permission to use the Schrade Walden name. She stated that is was either made by the old Schrade Walden company or Schrade or by some other company here in the USA due to the fact it has USA stamped on the tang. Does anyone know if Camillus made any Schrade Walden knives after the plant closed in Ellenville?

Perhaps the model number would help? The number on the red trapper is 1194R. There's also a green bone stockman in the tube that seems to come from the same manufacturer, in the same tube. The number on that one is 11897G. Definitely seems to rule out Schrade since I don't believe any of their model numbers had more than three digits.Does the insert have anything in small print in the corner that reads something like Taylor Brands LLC?

If you look at the sellers' other sCHRADE wALDEN knives, I'm fairly sure those with only one pin, are made by Bear, as that is their style of attaching the covers. The seller also mentions 440 steel, and I'm pretty sure Camillus, like Schrade, was using 420HC at the end. But, 440 modified is what Bear was/is using according to an employee who took my order for a catalog once upon a time. Another WAG for the 3 pin versions is either United's new facility...before they too went under...or, Colonial who also offers the Trapper pattern in bone and a 440 steel. Maybe the Stockman as well?

Just an opinion.

It is possible that Utica Cutlery is making them...but I doubt that Utica has ever used 440 stainless.

Camillus makes sense too but seems like we never saw any of these before Camillus went under and now that they are out of business there are tons of this one and the bone trapper out there.

hi,i started collecting 4 1/8 camillus trappers awhile back and this knife looks alot like my camilluses except for the size. i.e the bolster shape blade styles, nail nicks, and the general look does look like a camillus, just my opinion.;thanks

I'm looking at The new SMKW mag and the # you gave on the trapper is not bear mgc . as one said bear MGC uses only one pin and I see them on other brand names with the one pin, It has to be a Cammillus built knife..Nice looking knives though...Mike
