Which reel do you guys recommend out of this list for both performance and money. I have an older quantum Accurist PT right now, i'm looking for a new reel. I fish lefty retrieve. So here's my list:

-Shimano Curado E 200 (E5)
-Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Victory
-Abu Garcia Revo SX
-Quantum Energy PT

I want a solid reel, it will only be used for bass, pickerel and other similar sized fish. I'll be fishing anything from weightless worms to heavier spinner baits, probably using power pro.

Also, i may buy a St. Croix Triumph medium casting rod 6'6".

The curado has been the baitcasting standard for years. It has undergone design changes(and hefty price increases) over the last several years and I have no experience with the newer models but it has at least a 20 year reputation for quality and performance.

Abu Garcia has had their ups and downs with product success over the last 15 or so years but the Revo does seem to be a quality reel from all I have read.

My experience with Quantum has been mixed. I will leave it at that. (after all, Quantum's "father" is Zebco...)

I know nothing about Wright and McGill but arent't they the makers of Eagle Claw? I would be wary of anything new from a company with no 'reel' history.

Bottom line. I would find a good used last generation Curado. I think that would be the best value for the money.

I have a few Curados and they are great reels. I handled the Revo recently . Spun the spool and it went for twenty seconds. I was impressed.

Are you saying the revo would be good for flipping lighter baits than the curado stock? Or alltogether.

I have some older and two newer Curado's. I use the new ones exclusively for flipping jigs, worms, etc.

The ones I have are 7:1 gear ratio which is great for taking in alot of line fast, but not so good if you want to use it for a spinner bait IMO.

However the new CU200E5 model which is on my list of future purchases is 5:1 ratio.

The new 200's are smaller than the old 100's, but with the same line capacity! That's a win in my book.

Hey tony, where do you fish in CT? I hit the farmington river, hammonasset river, a few spots in my town, north farms reservoir, a spot across from the time out tavern in durham, indian river, cedar lake, black pond, cockaponset, chatfield hollow, messerschmidt and a few others. I was looking at the 200E7. My accurist does the job well, i just want to have an extra BC and i've wanted a curado for a while.

When I fish in CT, it is usually small ponds in Ridgefield, Redding, Newtown. But I mostly fish in CT for trout from streams and small rivers.

I have a fleet of john boats that stay on NYC reseviors, so the majority of my fishing is done in Westchester and Putnum counties in NY

SuzukiGS750EZ, I used to use the Shimano Curado's & nothing else. Tim @ our local Bass Pro shop talked me into trying Diawa's Zillion reel 2 years ago. Being this reel was about $75-$100 more than I paid for the Curado's at that time, I really hesitated but still bought one. I now have 9 of them on my bass rods & my son was the proud inheritor of the Shimano's. I also switched to using Suffix braid (50#) where I can & it has made a huge difference in the distance I could cast. I have been using baitcasters for about 25 years now, & I would have to venture the Zillion is tops on my list. But as with everything in life, my brother-in-law swears by Abu Garcia. I really don't think you could go wrong with any of the above reels. My personal preference just happens to be the Zillion.
Be safe.

I have the Curado and the Revo. I use the Revo for lighter baits and for jigging, and the Curado for crankbaits and spinnerbaits, though I really think they'd be fairly interchangeable at those tasks--they just happen to be on the rods I use for those baits. They're both great reels, and if I had to buy another, my final choice would be dictated by price, since my experience is they're both about equal.

curado or revo.. either one..

i have had nothing but crap from quantum. stick with abu or shimano.. i love shimanos
