I got a new large left handed regular Sebenza in the mail today from Spoon River Cutlery. (Thanks Walter.) Up till now I only had a large Classic so I was finally able to see both side by side. I was surprised that in real life the differences between the two were pretty noticeable. I thought they would be more subtle just judging from the pictures on the Chris Reeves site - more a matter of aesthetics then anything else. Because of the different blade clips the Classic's blade seems "pointier" and more precise. It gives the knife a different feel although I don't know that the performance would be substantially different. The biggest thing I found is that I prefer the Classic's lockbar. The scallops on the regular don't make the lockbar easier to use and there seems to be less area for my thumb to engage. Anyway I am looking forward to using the regular as my edc to see if there are any other differences. All in all though a very satisfying day. :)

congratulations!!
I just got my Large regular a few weeks ago. Great for EDC!! :)

One of the reasons that I like to patronize CRK is that they carry left hand knives. No other production company (If you consider CRK to be a production knife company, which I don't but they fall in that category) will stock a left hand knife. The axis lock from Benchmade may be an exception, but at best it's ambidextrous. For a long time I swore by the small but I got used to the large. I carry my large Mayonized regular Sebenza and my mammoth Mnandi (both left handed of course), and I got all the bases covered. But with Tom not doing Seb modifications any longer :( , I suppose she'll go back in the safe. For now I'll have my John Smith large Evolution for large folder duty. Suffice it to say that I think that a large regular is real hard to beat. Some day I'll have to try the classic. :) :p

I'm wondering what the scallops are really for? They don't seem to improve opening the blade. I mean you don't really need scallops there on the front/top handle, and as I said earlier they don't make it easier to engage and use the locking bar. I can't believe they are only for looks. I think they are there to give a firmer grip when you choke up on the blade. Kind of like the thumb ramp serrations but only for your index and middle fingers. I kinda like that and it makes up some for the lock bar. BTW I wish I could've gotten mine mayonized - oh well

The scallops, as you suggested, provide an excellent grip/reference point when holding the Sebbie. I personally like the scallops and over-all design of the regular Sebbie scales over those of the Classic.
