New Respect for Sheath Makers - Made my First Sheath

So I took the plunge and made my first sheath (actually it is my second but the first was not for a Bussekin so it doesn't count). Below are a few pics. I made it for my Son of Dog Father. I know orange and tan generally don't go together but this is going to be a camp knife - I wanted it easy to see and not get lost.

Some of the sheaths the "Pros" make for Busses are absolutely amazing. Making the sheath has given me a new respect for the makers. It felt like part art and part science. Any pointers or thoughts are welcome. BTW - I know I suck at taking pics.

I don't know, your's doesn't look too far off.

You could probably pull it in a couple of millimeters, but besides that it looks good to me!

Second sheath? I think you nailed it bro.

Great job and the pics aint bad either.

That is a good looking sheath!

I've just got some kydex myself, waiting for the rivets to arrive. Hope mine turns out as good as yours!

Looks real good to me, if you're happy with the fit and retention, I'd say you're good to go!

Nice work.

Looks real good. Like stated before, if the retention is good then your good.

Looks like a pretty sweet setup to me, and I love the creativity with the oranges and orange sheath- very nice!

That is just sweet--can't believe it is only your second sheath, and I love the color! Nice work!

I for one think that tan and orange go great together. Nice sheath.

I keep meaning to try kydex. (several years ago I almost ordered all the equipment to make them, then spent the Christmas money on an impulse buy, that I regret).

I just made my first leather sheath. I really should have read a tutorial first! It sure does give you a better idea of how much work is involved (of course I am sure that pro makers don't make all the time consuming mistakes, or poke holes in their fingers quite as often).

Looks good to me; I wouldn't be embarassed to carry it, that's for sure.

What do you use to press your kydex?

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm going to tinker a little more with this sheath:
1. I'm going to bring the edges in near the bottom rivets (Thanks Matteo for the idea).
2. I'm going to add an orange piggyback sheath for my spyderco mule (it is the only thin fixed blade I have - note to self: need to get thin infi).

I might be able to do this in the next day or two and will post pics again when this is done.

Looks good to me; I wouldn't be embarassed to carry it, that's for sure.

What do you use to press your kydex?

Thanks IJ. For the press I use plywood and the blue camp pad at Walmart. I glued two pieces of camp pad to each board and use four C-clamps to squeeze it together. It's not optimal but it works. I may build a quality steel press soon (I have family that builds race cars so I have access to lots of cool stuff:D).
