My awesome wife got me a large RSK MK1 for Christmas!! I just ordered a set of titanium Wilkins scales for it. This thing is going to be epic with those scales.

The only issue I am having with it is the blade is grossly un-centered. The blade isn't rubbing on the scales but it is really close. So do you think that the blade will sit more centered in the replacement scales or does it need to go to back to Benchmade? I figured if I am going to spend that much money on replacement scales I want the knife to be "right".

It's possible it may be more centered with the Wilkins scales. You can always send it back in the original scales of not. Good luck.

I don't care if the company is a production facility. There are so many stories about mis-aligned blades and other problems it makes me mad. I have a new knife that's not perfect either, and just wonder where the QC problems start off with? Don't they look at the knife for a few moments before shipping it out? Yeah to send the knife up to Oregon City doesn't cost much in the end, but you have a Christmas present from a loved one that should be enjoyed. There are tricks and tips a plenty to fix the problem yourself...all you need is a T6 and T10 torx driver and some patience.

Knifeworks is a quality dealer and have a great track record. If you don't want to mess give them a call and have them take care of the problem for you.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!

...Joe

If it came off center I don't think the Wilkin's scales are going to correct the problem. I actually got two small Ritter's in the mail today, both brand new and one is perfectly centered and the other is just a hair off. Benchmade will fix it for you if it bugs you that much, I would send it in if it were me.

I actually live only 35 minutes away from the factory. So the kids and I just ran down there (we just got back home actually). They are really friendly in there. They took the knife and said that they would adjust it. The store there is pretty cool to.

I am pretty excited about the Wilkin's grips to. They should be pretty awesome to say the least.

Kalsu,

KW had to go through an entire box of Ritters for me before they found one that wasn't off-center or had blade play.

That was last year. I'd hoped that whatever the problems, BM would have fixed them by now.

There still seems to be a problem of some sorts, but like I said Benchmade took it back and is going to fix it. Pretty satisfied with the process so far.

I really envy any of you that can walk into the store. Glad to read the knife will be serviced and adjusted. I would opt for a perfect Christmas present and having done right will only make it sweeter! :)

I'd be in soooo much trouble if I lived that close!

Yeah its pretty cool being this close to Benchmade hmade. Kershaw is right down the road to. The Benchmade store is pretty cool. I could drop some serious cash in there.

I have a mini grip with an off-center blade. I've made two attempts to fix it myself but it's just the same as before. It's been a year now I wish I sent to benchmade before.

I just received a mini grip in yellow with an off centered blade(almost rubbing). Everything else is spot on, lock up, sharp, smooth but
the off centered blade does bug a little. Not enough to send it in but if anyone knows any tips to get it back center I'd appreciate your help.

Mini grip was the first knife I've ever owned and its been almost 3 years since then. In the meantime I've owned countless midtechs, sebenzas/
striders, customs, pretty much have owned or handled all the big names. But after all this time and going back to the mini grip I can safely say
that this knife really is a great blade and deserves all the praise it gets. Think I too will order some Ti Wilkins scales and make this knife a real
keeper.

If you put different scales on it, you may end up having to readjust the blade centering yourself. The adjusting process involves fiddling with the screws that are removed and replaced when changing out the scales. Not trying to scare you off of the new scales, just letting you know what you might be in for when changing them.

No I get it. At least now though the blade should be at least close to centered with the new scales. Before it wasn't even close.

With the knife closed.
I would losen all the screws including the clip screws
Now snug down on the pivot. Not real tight, just hand tight.
I then gently, but firmly, apply pressure to each side of the knife in opposite directions.
Left side up/right side down or Left side down/right side up; while at the same time seeing what combination gives you the desired results.
While holding the right effect, start tightening screws. If the tightening of one particular screw ruins the effect. Tighten this problem screw last.
Once all screws are tight, adjust pivot.

I got my Ritter Griptilian back from Benchmade the other day. The blade is perfectly centered now. The invoice with the knife said that they replaced the blade. All is well now. It was a painless experience. Now I am waiting for my titanium Wilkins scales.....

You're gonna love it. Here is my Ritter Mini-grip with Wilkins scales (alas, not titanium)...

Nice looking knife! I really was not planning on getting the titanium scales, but when I went to order them he had titanium in stock so I went for those. Should have them any day now.

My Ritter mini came noticeably off center, not hitting the liners though. Adjusting the pivot did nothing to correct it. It's rock solid and swings freely with no blade play, just not centered though. Hate to have to send it off.
