New RMD owner with a couple of questions

Just received an RMD in the mail and have to say that while it is growing on me, first impressions left me a little disappointed. I have fairly big hands and this knife doesn't seem to know quite how it wants to sit in my hand. I find myself wishing the handle was a little thicker but looking at it, I'm guessing it's a lot harder to mod than something like my Beckers (unscrew, cut liners from DVD case, reassemble). It especially feels off balance/loose when holding in what I would term a 'hammer' grip, although conversely, it's the first choiled knife I've owned that does make me comfortable choking up on it.

As an aside, as someone relatively new to all things sharp and pointy, are there threads or YouTube examples of the range of grips one can use on a knife for different uses?

Also, just wondering what recommendations are out there for sheaths. I know AZwelke does kydex for the RMD but what other options are there that folks like? Pics would be appreciated as I know we all love showing off our kit. In the short term I tried my SpecOps Combat Master but it's just a rattle-fest in that, however an old Buck Nighthawk nylon sheath proved to be a superb fit and I may yet go with that as the Nighthawk sits in the SpecOps quite nicely.

And of course, because it never happened if there are no pics to prove it: :)

That is interesting about the handle, as most feel the RMD has a great feel to it, myself included, and I have larger hand's than the average person. You can get liner's added for 20 buck's through Busse, that may do the trick or altleast, I think that applies to all Busse/Kin. You can contact Pokey or Garth for a quote. Al makes a great Kydex sheath along with many other's on the forum's. Same applies for leather and these craftsmen post regularly on both forum's so, send them a message or go to their sites and check them out. I am sure you will find something to your liking. :)

New to Bussekin and with the RMD as my first knife, I had similar thoughts and feelings about the thickness of the RMD handle. I have average-to-large sized hands with the majority of the length in my fingers. I explored options to make and cut liners, though I felt I would probably wreck more of the handle getting it off than I fixed :(

Laziness and complacency got the better of me, and I left the handles "as is", but continued to use the knife

Whew!! Am I glad that happened... Now after several months of use, I find I relish the handle design on the RMD. I was used to the "blocky" style handles on the ESEE 5/ESEE 6, and had grown accustomed to that "feeling" being the default. It took a few months to "train" my hands back...

I have found it to be one of the more comfortable knives one can buy... Now if we could only get an INFI version of it.. :D

I have large hands and find the grip design/size of the RMD to be just about perfect. It's what I like most about the knife. I say use it and try to get used to it before trying to change it. As for knife grip/use, just search the Internet. There's tons of stuff out there about different grips and such.

As for sheaths, if you like Kydex I am very happy with Eric at Mashed Cat Outfitters. His stuff is top-notch.

Leather sheath go with Dwayne at armor all leather or rainwalker. Kydex al werkes, buy brown, or mashed cat. All great makers.

Like some of the others have said already, give it some time before you mod it. I very rarely hear anyone complain about the feel, but each has their own thoughts. Love that color combo by the way.

Thanks for all that. I'll definitely give it a while to see how it settles in based on the input here.

If you like the SpecOps, buy or borrow yourself a Heat-Gun, heat up the Spec-ops liner (extracted from the canvas sheath) and mold it to a perfect fit - that's what I did and it fts both the RMD and SYKCO 511 with no rattle.

That said, lots of great sheath makers out there!
