Not a bad lookin knife for under 15 bucks...
I'll be curious to see how long it holds the edge. Keep us updated after ya give it a good workout

I have no idea why some companies actually charge MORE for a fixed-blade than a folder.

It looks like a very nicely-made knife. What is the steel type?

I have asked SMKW and Waxman Knifeworks, and both say it's 440, but won't commit to whether it's 440-A or -C.

IMO, they hold up okay, and take an edge pretty well. In my experience, I've had some that sharpened up as quickly & as well as my SAK's, but I've had a couple that took a little more effort to bring the edge back.

That's sure a nice looking piece. Maybe I'll try one of those next.

thx - cpr

That's a great looking handle. I'd like to see RR make a few small folders with the same type of wood.

They did once upon a time(3 or 4 years ago I think). I have a small 2.5" ish stockman done in it, and IIRC I saw a small canoe too done in it too, don't know if they did the whole line in it.

I use one around the garden as a beater,so far it's holding up to some nasty tasks very well.It seems well finished and quite attractive,it's useful and I'm pleased with it. If I were a huntsman, I think that the wood slabs could be a bit thin for prolonged use and slippery. But,decent value and the sheath is sturdy enough.

These are pretty great knives. Everything i've heard and read says they are 440a.
I always have a couple of the drop points around and loaned one to a guy who hunts my property, he skinned three white tails with the knife with only one quick stropping on cardboard. I saw a "rootwood" folder on Ebay lately and I think Bladematrix sells the wooden folder.
The rootwood handles are pretty pale so I dye them up with Fiebings leather dye and make a good leather sheath for them. Out of well over 100 Rough Rider i've purchased only three have had problems. A split backspring on a whittler snapped (looked like a flaw in the steel) , slow blades on a trapper and an overly crinked blade on a sow belly stockman. I kept all of then for use, the stockman i've used for over a year and it cuts 8-10 oz leather all day long. Great knives in my opinion.

Pretty sweet knife, I does deserve a leather sheath though...

I would love a better sheath for it. But I have never made any. Have no idea how to. And would not know how to go about ordering one from someplace without it costing an arm and a leg. If any of you have any ideas, let me know.

May be too 'primitive' looking, but I did one of these in bicycle-innertube-rubber that worked really well and was pretty good looking... :)

Leather hard to find? How 'bout wood?:

This one looks like it's made for your RR176! ...almost. :)

But, you're right...a ready made (custom) sheath is probably gonna cost WAY
more than your knife.

I got it off ebay. I have had others ask and it seems there are not many on there now, if any at all. Try doing a google for rough rider burl wood and you might be able to find one.

It is amazing how they can make a knife of decent quality for such a low price, ya gotta love sweat shops.

I don't it was the o.p's idea to discuss the known or unknown labor practices of companies that do business off-shore

I looked at some of the new production Schrades that have Desert Ironwood scales and they aren't bad looking
