Maybe this is just my hangup but if you want to cross post a thread into this forum, post the whole thread. I just think it's rude to simply post a link. Usually when I see that I refuse to even click on it. With that said, I've been guilty of doing it too but the new rule going forward is we close any thread that is simply a link. Either re-post the whole thread so it can be openly discussed on this forum or jsut don't post it ;)

Jeff, I don't want to confuse the issue, but I recently told someone to post a thread in just one forum and a link in the other, rather than to cross-post two separate threads on the same topic. These tend to go in similar forums obviously, with some people posting the same answer in both.

What I told him was to post the link and close the thread in the second forum, so the discussion would only go in one forum.

EDIT: you answered the question in the last line. Works for me. Re-post the link and close the thread. Thank you, sir!

edited out because my dumnbass was trying to do two things at once without enough brain power to pull such a stunt!

I just re post my thread. Please close it, I rather keep my original thread. Sorry everyone.

OK, now I get what's going on! I was reading Sh@rp's threads, thinking, "What is going on here??"

So the rule is, if you're going to cross-post a thread, post it here, close the thread, and add a link at the bottom of the cross-posted thread to the original thread so that all of the responses are consolidated into one thread.

It sounds complicated, but it actually does make the most sense.
This is a much better cross-post policy than on other forums I've seen.

Yep, cross post and close it. Simple. Otherwise post the full thread.

I's the same problem where someone posts a link to a video or a news article and says "discuss". Discuss what? Tell me what it's about, tell me what you think, then maybe add a link. I hate being told to hold a conversation with a newspaper article.
