Hi, guys, I've had my RW for about 3 weeks. One was camping in Door county Wis. I did the old one chop on a few good size branches.(as hard as I could) I would hit them at an angle, and with the convex edge I did'nt strike just right the knife would glance off.I love the feel of this this knife, and don't know if I should change the convex edge.Other than that I find myself just holding it,with my finger griping the choil.Anyone had else a problem with the grind.

Hi Snowbrow,

I'm glad that you like your Ratweiler. It is a fantastic blade!

I am by no means an expert on edge geometry, but when I first began using Swamp Rats, I had a similar experience with deflection. While ultimately I have to agree with the experts here, that a convex edge is much stronger than a v-edge, I have reprofiled my edges to a v because I am more experienced with it.

While the argument of the v-shape weakening the edge is ultimately true, but each edge is stronger than any other knife I have owned of any geometry.

Hypothetically, this could be compared by sharpening times after striking a rock with the edge. With a convex edge it might take 1 minute to sharpen any damage out, with a v-edge 2 minutes. Other knives would be broken.

There are ups and downs to each type of edge, but it's still a Swamp Rat. If you believe that reprofiling your knife to a "v" will help prevent the deflection, you will not regret it.

Hope this helps, let alone makes sense.

:D :D :D
