So I just purchased a new Griptilian to replace my Endura. It is my first Benchmade. Nothing wrong with my Endrua I just wanted to try something new and liked playing with the axis lock. I will be using this as my duty knife, I am an Infantry solider with the Canadian Forces. I was wondering how the durability is of the locking mechanism and how long of a service life guys are getting from there grips.

Just got mine in s30v but I've got a feeling that it's going to hold up very well. The past grips have been solid, no reason why these won't be as good or even better.
A very consistent performer, no nonsense, smooth and reliable.
Just like our soldiers...THANK YOU for your service.
Cheers

It is a very durable knife. The axis lock is amongst the best available. The handles, even though quite light, are stronger than you'd believe. I think it will give you many years of very good service.

The axis lock is among the strongest locking mechs.today. it will serve you for many years.

How about the omega spring? I'm about to get my first benchmade a griptilian. I've heard the omega spring breaks.

Yes, very rare, there are tons of original axis locks with original omega springs, I have yet to see one fail. IIRC a few years ago there was a batch of omega springs that had a crappy heat treat, other than that I own use and flick my original 710... What is it now, 13 years old?

My first Mini Grip was 440C. I used it daily, and carried it every day for about 5 years. I never babied the knife, and it held up very well.
I've owned numerous BM knives over the years, and have never had a spring break...
My current edc is a Mini with S30V. I haven't used it much yet, but I have no reason to think it won't last as long as the others I have owned.

I think after you use yours for awhile, you will really appreciate just how good of a knife they really are.

I've had a spring break in my mini grip.
BM repaired it no problem
I do like to open my knives on the couch though

Thanks for the video BladeandFlame:thumbup:

I think the S30V should hold up really well at the heat treat they set it at. Curious also how the N680 steel used on the H2O version holds up.

I had an omega spring break (I'm a chronic flicker so I take full responsibility.) What I thought was cool was that the lock functioned just fine with only one spring. I wouldn't want to use the knife for an extended period with one spring but it's nice to know that in a pinch your blade will still function if a spring breaks while your in the field. While the full size grip is a little too thick for me to EDC, I still have 2 in my collection that I like to play with occasionally.
