The new 2 x 72" Grizzly grinder is here and up and running, now I just need me belts and buffing wheel to show up and sparks will fly. It has a 1 HP motor with an 9 inch extended 5/8" shaft to accommodate buffing wheels, sanding drums, flap sanding wheels. It came with a 100 AO belt and boy I cant wait for the good belts. Doug

It just dont happen . I dont have a lot of room to work in now as you see so I just deal with it, unfortunately. Doug

Keep us informed how it works for you. It is going to be awhile before I can get a KMG, so I have been thinking of either the Grizzly or the Coote.

That looks real familiar. I still use my Grizzly for handles. Man, I wouldn't want to have an computer/television/router/DVD player or anything electronic in there. Grinding makes a LOT of super fine metal dust fly into the air(especially with the balls-out speed of the Grizzly), and all those little cooling vents in various electronics will eventually result in a loud POP if not a fire hazzard as the dust collects. Not to mention the dust staying air born for hours after grinding and getting in your lungs. But I'm preaching to the choir. I know you know this and have thought about it.

Congrats on that new grinder, but see if you can find a place for it other than the office. :)

I am going to give it a good run tomorrow. I wish I had a better setup for space, I am in a small rented house with no basement, no garage. During nice weather I work outside on the deck but it is just too dam cold here now for that. I am thinking about doing a tarp cover for now at least to keep a bunch of the dust out, I will have to see what I come up with. The only extra I saw as far as add on items was a 10" contact wheel. Right now I have an 8" buffing wheel on the other end of the shaft. Doug

This is very important. I have 2 Grizzlys and you must cover the motor vents on the bottom with some filter material. I just get air conditioner filter material and cut out a patch and tape it over the holes. If dust and shavings get in the motor you can at the least plan to replace the bearings. I service the grinders by using my shop vac on these underside vents after every weeks use. Get yourself a ceramic platen cover from Ellis because the graphite cover will wear quickly. Careful with that buffer. Especially if you like that window. If you got the soft floppy buffing wheel for it I would not use it. It will grab and throw stuff faster than you can blink. If that is your only buffer I would get a harder, wide muslin wheel for it.

trentu Thanks much for the info. I will do that. I have a sissal/muslin wheel on it now. I have another bench grinder with the softer wheels. Thanks again Doug

Also put a couple of wraps of electrical tape in the center of the tracking wheel. Tracks better. Some guys also put an extra brace top to bottom to make it more rigid. Good luck with it. Glass platen as mentioned is a must.

I am working on a roller attachment so I can do finger grooves. Will bolt where the platen goes.
