Hi,
I just bought a new Zwilling twin signature 7" Santoku knife as my first kitchen knife upgrade. Not high end but, it seems like a nice knife and great for veggies.
We have gotten more into veggies so it will be great.
Now, I want some decent sharpening tools. I have a DuoSharp diamond block but, also want a honing tool for maintaining the edge.
I started looking into them and there is a huge variety out there. Not sure what is reasonable.
What do other folks use?

Thx

I use a smooth steel. A ceramic rod works well too. Victorinox makes an inexpensive smooth steel, Idahone ceramic rods get good reviews.
I use both, except that my steel is finely ridged. (garage sale special. Wear-ever, 12", will outlast me)

Ragweed Forge sells bare ceramic sticks for about $2, depending on length. They also have a handled version for $5. I've used these for years, and am quite pleased with them. Great people to deal with, too.

Falkniven;'s rods gets good reviews from chefs, The C10 is Ceramic and FAKD12 is Diamond,

I've used a Henckels Steel rod and a Kai Ceramic rod on my German knives in the past.

I use a Falkniven C10 Ceramic rod for quick touch ups whilst prepping if required.
Usually pull out the Shapton Pro 2000 about once a week to give the regularly used knives a quick touch up. Couple of minutes each knife and they are back the way I like them.
My knives only need a bit more work if the wife's been banging them around.
