I just got it and it looks like the jimping on the top side of the blade and the circle where the wave is looks kind of brown. In sunlight it is kind of a purple color. On the back of the blade when closed the half circle that locks the blade into the handle is totally brown. This is just unpolished metal right? Not rust or oxidization?

I now always get the black finish, less flash. But pictures would help. How do you like the knife other wise?

difficult to say.

if by satin you mean the greyish coating from the emerson factory, it may be dirt or grime of some sort.

if it has no coating, and is a true satin or stonewash from the factory, it may be decarb or other result from the grinding.

if the coating was removed by someone other than the factory, it could be burns from the grinding.

have you tried polishing out the discoloration?

The knife is awesome. Sick blade and the wave makes it open super fast. I got 2 of them and they both have the same type of brown coloration on the parts as described. The blade it's self is perfect it's only on the machined parts where the color is brown. I put some Hoppe's #9 on the brown spots but the brown remained. I think if it was rust or oxidization that would have taken it off. These are my first Emerson's so it might just be the look but I am not sure.

The new stonewashed Emersons tend to have areas of brown discoloration. Many of us have noticed this. It is also noted around the serrations on those versions as well in the stonewashed finish. No one has mentioned this discoloration as being a problem and I have had no problems with any of mine-- so get out there, have faith in the product, and use it well!!!
