Hello!

I just have handled - and ordered :D - a new Utcom (2005) with satin finish at a german knife show.
I already own a satin finish commander, which was produced in 2000.
The finish seems rather different, the Utcom seems to have some kind of special coating.

Can anybody tell me more?

Thomas

I don't know anything about it really, but after I got my karambit satin finish and carried it for a whilethe finish started to get darker ( not dirty) where the blade is exposed.... I was thinking why they wouldn't add some kinf of clear coat finish on top of that to protect and preserve the bright finish from when the knife was new.... my guess is they may be adding some kind of clear coat now... again, I might have no idea what I am talking about, but good question. Now, who will answer?

yes, my satin karambit did get darker. but I haven't noticed it on my satin hd-7,cqc-8, or my cqc-11 and they have that same ceramic finish. so I don't know why

I like the way it looks when it gets darker, but it would be cool if my satin cqc7 didn't

Thanks for the informations.

I'm not able to find any info about this finish at the emerson site.

What is the purpose of this ceramic coating (exvept that it may be cheaper to produce)?
And how is this finish made?

Thomas

I don't think it's cheaper,it's a better more durable finish than what they used in the past. I think I read about it in the ECA newsletter, not the site. As for how it's made I have no idea.
