Me again...

I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has handled/used all three of the Satin Jacks mentioned above? If so, how do they compare?

I liked my 1/4", didn't feel the 3/16" had enough heft. I was wondering if the new SJ Tac handled/felt like either of the old SJs. If not, what other Busse would you compare it to (ZTNO with narrower blade?). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for my "perfect" 6" blade:) So far the ZTNO (if it were coated) would have a slight edge over the 1/4" SJ. How do you guys thing the new SFNO stacks up? I'm trying to find out as much as I can before I buy, due to the wait and the cost...

i don't think anybody has used a new sjt to know how it feels.

the old model will not put be to shame by the new model as they are very different blade shapes.

the new jack will have a much deeper blade than the old one. i would guess the closest comparable would be a ztno or maybe even a SHI.

i might even venture to say that the new jack could be a melding of the old jack and the ztno in size and handling.

if so it is destined to be one hell of a awesome knife for field carry.

and i hear the test team has just finished reviewing the new Fusion Mistress. is that right bjb?

p.s. Just when I thought I had convinced myself that I wasn't going to go for a SJ Tac, you have to make a very yummy description of it. Damn you Skunk!!

I've handled all three. (I handled the Satin Jack Tac briefly at Blade.) I'm not sure how I could compare the old 1/4" SJ with the new SJ tac; they're rather different.

"I'm looking for my "perfect" 6" blade...."

May I suggest that you consider the 6" PBF? Imagine this:

Start with a 1/4" SJ; then give it a more acute edge angle to make it a better slicer; then give it medium sabre grind to make it a bit heftier and more rugged; then give it a tip that is both pointier for better piercing and thicker for even more indestructibleness; then give it a deeper front guard than other Busse knives, and a thumb ramp too, to give you superb hand protection; then remove the rear handle guard so that your pinky doesn't get mashed, and so that you can choke up on the very rear of the knife for good chopping; then give it perfectly neutral balance for easy and comfortable handling--

--and there you have the 6" PBF. You get both chopping and prying like a big knife, and slicing and handling like a smaller knife, all in one package the size and weight of an SJ. The perfect 6" blade....

If you can find one!

I'm a big fan of the SJ line and I don't think you'll go wrong with whatever you choose. Be careful of that "perfect" blade quest, seems to lead to frustration. As for the PBF, I found that the balance was off, a little heavy, and the grip to uncomfortable as a fighter. IMHO the 3/16th SJ fills that roll much better (quicker, neutral balance, better grip). I don't have a 1/4" SJ (but I do have a tanker A) and not sure if I'd want the extra heft in this package. So untill I get my new Tac SJ, my vote goes for the thin SJ. Have fun in your search.

IMHO the new satin jack tac is the best of the 3. Ergonomically the grip is better all around for either a forward or a reverse grip. It can stab, slice and pry. And the convex edge is just awesome. If it matters I also beleive the new tac is far superior cosmetically than it's older brothers. Wonderful all around blade.
