New scales on my CABS

Like most, I was very excited, waiting for my CABS last fall. When I got it though, it was virtually unusable, due to the small size of the handle.

I found a gentleman in NY State that 'works' on knives. He was recommended by the fellow that owns Bark River.

What he did for me, was impressive. A new handle of Bocote wood that is much longer and thicker than the factory Paper Linen Micarta that the knife came with.

I am VERY pleased :D Now my CABS is a user!

Very nice! I like it a lot. And it strikes me as if it now looks more formal and would be more presentable to the non-knife world if that ever matters. Amazing what a handle change can do for appearances (and function if needed). Mike

That is a good way to look at it Mike.

I bought the knife to use as a BushCraft blade. I wanted the blade shape, and I was very impressed with the INFI steel, knowing that the knife would be used hard. This handle mimics the Spyderco BushCraft UK model. Same profile, size, thickness and length. It will work perfectly for me now.

The first thing I thought, aside from how great it looked, was how close it looked to the Spyderco Bushcraft. Especially in your first picture. You have great knife there. Have fun. Mike

That is absolutely Beautiful!!!:thumbup: I have a major yearning for the CABS now that I have seen your mod photos :D, PM me his information if you dont mind ;)

Nice.

I like the scales on mine, but those look great as well.

Also, in the future, you can have the Busse customs shop do handle swaps and heavy customizing if you want. Although the turn around is probably slower.

I spoke to one of the Busse staff about the issue. They said that they would not do any modification while the knife was still up for sale. Afterward, they would consider modifications on a case by case basis.
They recommended that I speak to Mike at Bark River, as he has done a number of Busse knife modifications.
Mike said he just did not have the time, and put me in touch with the gentleman that wound up doing the work.

Ahhh, totally forgot that the CABS was still up. I think my mind has moved on to muckier things!!!!!!!

Interesting. That is the first time I heard that they won't mod a model till it is no longer up for direct sale.

Awesome scales! Awesome pics! Congratulations!
I wasn't aware that the handle of the CABS is that small. Or do you have exceptionally large hands (XXL)?
