Hey guys I was wondering what you all thougth about the Schrades that are made in China now? Are they junk? Also I recently bought a shrade old timer stockman with ironwood handles. I never seen a stockman with ironwood before? The knife seems okay good spring action, and the main clip blade says first production run on it. Is this some sort of future collector? It is a handsome stockman and I like the ironwood scales on it and for around $22 it was a decent value. It says 80TW China on the bottom near the bolster. What does that mean is that the type of steel? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I doubt if many of the "Old Timers" will ever collect them.

I know there are varying opinions of the new China Schrade models, most I have read about and have first hand of are not very favourable hold a USA Schrade up against a China made model you can see the difference straight away, not very well finished, blades are poor also in fit and finish, many have trashed them from the get go, If you are easily pleased these could be the knives for you, personally I would stick to the USA models, there are still many around. The 80TW is the model number, the original USA would of been an 8OT, the steel I undrestand is 440C Stainless Steel.

Thanks for the info guys. I originally went to buy a buck stockman U.S.A. model but the store I went to did not have one only the smaller version. So I bought this cheaper model it looked alright. I did not see any case knives with carbon blades in the window case at the store. I do not care too much for the mirror like stainless steel on the models displayed by case. Any suggestions?

Not sure where you live, but I still find a USA Schrade or two every once in a while in hardware stores at lower than 2004 retail prices. They are getting scarcer to find all the time and an awful lot of them end up on Ebay.
