Well I Just picked up the schrade schf14 today, mainly bc it was on the shelf in the chain store for only $14.99 which turned out to be from someone not knowing how to much numbers up. They honored the price thou so I was happy.

Well upon opening I was surprised at how comfortable it was in hand, the edge sucks and is horribly ground but that's easy enough to fix on the work sharp..all in all for $15 bucks it's not a bad edc beater knife.

Here's the thing that puzzled me a lil bit thou, when inspecting the finish on it I noticed something. Schrade stamps there knives with there name on one side the model on the other...according to my stamp I'm in possession of a schf15 which obviously isn't the case...I think they need to step there quality control up a tad.

I have seen these for relatively cheap at Academy. I think they're $20? Somewhere in there. The design isn't terrible, I just can't bring myself to buy a Schrade.

I wasn't planning on buying it, but couldn't pass up the price...the schrade I actually wanna get my hands on is the schf42, but I can't find it locally..If only I still lived an hour from knife centers office...I would just order online but I travel allot for work and chances are I won't beat the wife to the mail box lol...Then I gotta explain why I need yet another knife...much easier buying in person and slipping it into the collection unnoticed lol

I got one a while back. Yes it's a low end knife but something about the design. It spoke to me. I like it for a cheap blade.

Yea it seems decent for beater edc knife...what got me thou was the schf15 stamped on the blade...had to Google it to see what the 15 looked like.

I've heard they are quite comfortable in hand. I've almost pulled the trigger on one a time or two from the big river site, but then thought for 10 more bucks, I could get a Becker BK14 or BK11.

It's definitely comfortable in the hand. It's by far one of the worse factory grinds I've ever seen thou. Looking down the blade from the handle you can see the edge leaning very far to the left. One side I'd guess is close to 30° while the other closer to 17° . For the blade style I like simple sheath thou, I wish other knives I want came with kydex out the box.

Anyone who's been around knives their whole life will have no problem with a poor grind. Easy to fix and for the money, worth well more than what you pay for a Schrade. Their heat treat is extremely well done, especially on the 8cr13mov.

I just got a SCHF26 and SCHF37 a week ago and both have seen a lot of use. Most would have belly ached for months about the slightly messed up grind at the tip mine had, key word, had, was easy to fix and was less than $30.00. The SCHF26 with the 8cr13mov is even better than the 1095 on the SCHF37. Both take anything you can throw at them and just laugh at you. Their fixed blades are well worth MSRP and retail is even lower. Anyone afraid to do work with them real knives with real steel that are $400.00 plus can grab one, do a bunch of work with it then put the pretty one on top of a pile of wood and say look what I did today with this pretty thing. I know y'all do it lol. ;)

So many people can't sharpen these days that almost everyone has a work sharp or belt grinder of some sort. Even easier to fix then, heck even a HF grinder costs more than the knives do.

Yea the grind wasn't a deal breaker, it was easily fixed, and for the price especially what I paid for it is a great buy for a beater blade.I was just noting that it had the worst grind I've ever seen from a production blade, even worse than my friends pos bg ultimate knife lol.

I want the schf 36 or 37 I forget which one it is and the one I want the most is the schf42. I've seen raving reviews on the 42.

Yea the worksharp definitely quickly and easily fixes muffed up factory grinds, I Just got one a week ago.I'll be the first to admit I've never developed the skill on a stone alone, I can get them working sharp, but not razor sharp. I thought it was gonna take a lil more effort fixing this one thou, but it straightened up quickly.

That looks great now.

Looks like the edge the SCHF26 I have came with from the factory. They ground it perfect. I could tell you a lot about the 37. It splits, it chops and will still feather a pile of shavings to start a fire. If you get one, use the large ferro rod that showers sparks real good on the finger choil. I've never seen anything throw more sparks on any knife than the finger choil on my 37. It's a for real fire starter. If you don't wear out your hand first, and you will, the diamond stone touches up the blade very good. Not the best looking but it works. The plastic ovals are raised a bit and they shave off after a while. Was annoying getting them shaved down as I sharpened with it though.

I'd love to try the 42 as well but it will be at least a decade, probably more until I need another knife. I only buy when I need them so I like buying as tough as I can get. I only got mine after I Seen my brothers SCHF9 eat up a stack of wood. Everyone complains about the jimping, I'm not seeing it. I did another couple hours today chopping splitting and carving with it with no gloves and not a single hot spot, jimping is perfect IMO. Don't worry about the sheath complaints, they look like they are made in the same Chinese factory some of the BK knives come with, and the BK sheaths are Chinese and no one complains about them.

Heck a ferro rod this good is at least $15.00 and the stone would sell minimum $10.00. That means I paid $4.95 for the sheath and knife. It was actually the same price as my Mora light my fire knife. Another awesome knife that throws more sparks than You'd think from such a short ferro rod.

For the price you can't go wrong, even if it has a bent blade from a poor heat treat Taylor will replace it real quick with one that's good. Honestly I think the reason you hear of the tiny issues is because of the shear numbers they crank out. Percentage wise it's probably about the same as big brand domestic made knives. Kinda like how when a Glock model has random issues with new models. Life's too short to worry about it and they take care of it. Unlike some companies. I won't mention the brand but I had a USA made folder one time that was a factory dud and they literally said to me lol, our knives don't fail like that. Sent it back to them anyway and told them to keep it. Worst $70.00 I ever spent on a single knife.

Oh, and I wish I could come across a miss mark like that! Lucky dog!

Now go wear off that blade coating......

That's good to hear, I looked it up and it's the 37 I'm wanting, seems like it would be a solid chopper and has the length for batoning. I had a bk7 I loved but I ended up selling it during a time of need. I was gonna get another until I came across the schf37 for a third of the price and most the same features.

I definitely don't need the schf 42 but sure do want it lol. I figure you can't have too many blades laying around. I edc most of mine on a rotation, atleast anything under 5". You Get some strange looks with a 7+" blade dangling off your belt in Wal-Mart lol it's not as bad with 5"or less.

I live out in the boonies and have to drive a ways to get gas. So when my youngest boy and I were done hiking, crafting and fishing today I went to fill the truck up. Kellam puukko dangling on the left and SCHF37 strong side. I tend to forget I have them on me lol. Didn't even realize it was there till I reached for the wallet to pay for the monster and goodies.

Honestly, the BK7 don't compare. The BK9 has a slight edge on chopping, that's about it. You won't be unhappy getting the SCHF37. It has a real shallow hollow grind and batons, chops and to my amazement, does fine work very well. They have a slightly higher HRC over the BK knives too, and it shows. Edge on mine lasts too long, but no complaints from me. The factory edge was decent, did work all day but my edge on it now is even better. After a bunch of heavy work I reduced two chopped oak logs to a pile of dhavings and 3 minutes of touching up brought it back to amazing sharp.

Even this old dry ash all twisted and knotted up was a joke to it.

Nice, I think I'll definitely be picking one of em up.. Are all you schrades stamped correctly with the model #? Just curious if them stamping the wrong model like on my schf 14 is common.

That's the first I seen. Send them an email and ask. They actually reply, and quickly. I had some questions and got a Tshirt and some window decals out of it too. Great CS. Mine are all stamped right.
