Thought I'd post this scrimshaw SC501 from the Trachtenberg collection. It's got custom real ivory handles done by Mr Feeney I believe back in the eighties. Not positive on the dates, or the circumstances surrounding the making of the knife. Maybe it has something to do with the Wostenholm scrims Mr Feeney did.

Nice Scrim! Nice touch with the harpoon on the reverse!

Nice one, Eric! With your permission, I'll ask Mr. Feeney about this one as well. I suspect it is from the 1978-80 period he mentioned to me previously. Good to see his full sig scrimmed. Previous examples had only his initial.

Thanks guys!, Codger, be my guest, I'm pretty curious myself about the origins. It came in the black SC-501 scrimshaw box with the felt liner and brown sheath with leather lanyard.

Very Nice!!!

Are those handles glued on??? Ivory is a Live material so it can move around??

Thanks for the fast reply Codger, he didn't happen to confirm that it's actual ivory or whalebone, did he? Guess I could always do the hot pin test  :D , BTW, the Wostenholm knives he scrimmed also had his full last name inscribed : http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=452645.
Tim, it's glued on, I'm kind of curious myself about it's holding power, but it sure does give it smooth lines.
