for all the "men" who hunt and hurt and abuse animals -

- note the study says "pleasure when killing animals" -

- note when i say hunt i mean hunt for sport not like the old days of native cultures when those people lived in harmony; took only what they needed and prayed for and gave thanks to the animals spirit

this link is about the modern sport hunter

so for my friends that hunt and use all the parts of the animal and do not kill for fun this is not meant for you - i meant it for "trophy" hunters

Jose Ortega Y Gasset explored the reasons for hunting in his famous Meditations on Hunting.

Some vegans may look down on meat eaters. Some meat eaters may look down on butchers and think them low caste. Some meat hunters may look down on trophy hunters.

Gratuitous insults from any of them towards any of the others are not welcome here. Respectful discussion, on the other hand, is ok.

I am an unabashed meat eater, but I've never really done much hunting - it just doesn't really interest me. The little hunting I have done though I will say I've always eaten everything we've taken, and made a point of making a clean kill - if the animal would suffer, then it wasnt worth it - 1 - because that is cruel, and 2 - adrenaline ruins the taste of the meat. No point in getting bad meat you wouldn't want to eat so, if it couldn't be a clean kill, we didn't take it. And I've never mounted ANY of them, or made any trophies of them. It was strictly a "for the food" kind of thing.

I have always thought that cruelty to animals was a sign of an ill mind, and historically speaking MOST serial killers starte don animals first.

my opinions, for what they are worth.

i agree - and like i said in the article they are talking about people that enjoy the inflicting harm aspect - not the kind of people who are out to be one with nature and live of the land etc etc - they specifically are talking about those that get a thrill from killing - not the thrill of the hunt which i see as a big difference

no assertions nor was it hunters in general it was specifically about hunters that enjoy killing - which is not necessarily what makes a hunter.

it was a clinical study - with such a wide variety of subjects brought up here and talked about with open minds and intelligent discussion i thought this would be safe - oh well - i didn't mean to offend anyone - so if i did i apologize

feel free to remove the whole thread

Eric, If you can provide references to the clinical study from a genuine refereed journal, I will restore the link.

It appeared to me you linked to a poorly done joke website in rather poor taste. If it is indeed genuine I will be most interested in learning the exact locus of the hunting gene, and also more about the rather unusually named reproductive disorder claimed to be associated with the "hunting gene."
