Well my Seal Pup second just arrived (at least after my wife finally answered the door to sign for it.) I'm still trying to find out what makes it a second (other than the mark). It is clean (and sharp).

I was struck that it feels smaller than any of my other (non-SOG) fixed blade knifes. Amazingly confortable.

Now to my question: The sheath. It has the clip on the front, the belt loop, and the buckle in the loop. How do you get the buckle over the snaps? Also, how does this sheath compare with the nylon that SOG is offering?

Thanks,

Hey Scottsman,

Glad you like your SEAL Pup second.

When I set up the seconds program for SOG, I wanted photos of exaggerated examples of what would make a second to assure that no one would ever receive anything on the scale of what is shown on the SOG Seconds webpage. Usually, the “flaw” is so small, the average user will never notice it, but the keen eyes of SOG Quality Control caught something that didn’t look right. Regarding a knife with a coating, most often, there is something wrong with it. It might be a scratch, smudge, hair, or uneven application which made it non-acceptable. Some knives have been handled in a store and for whatever reason (usually a wholesale agreement/contract), they can send it back to the manufacturer for credit (that always irked me). Those knives cannot make it back to the general public as “new” (they might have received a scratch or ding while in the prospective customer’s hands, or maybe nothing much), rather becoming a second. Other knives have been set aside to receive Rc testing while sampling a batch of knives to assure the Rockwell Hardness is within factory specs.

scottsman, your knife might have an RC mark. A small dimple about the size of a ".". After a lot of looking all I could find on my Tsunami Second was an RC Mark.

As for that buckle, from what I can tell, it won't slide ove the buckle and will have to cut off. That's what I did to remove the one on my Mini Pentagon's sheath.

BTW from what I hear, the Pup's Tactical Nylon sheath is sweet. Now if only they made one that would fit the Tsunami and Government Agent.Hint Hint.:D

Those little dimples (the Rc marks) are always done on the tang near the guard and are about the size of a ball point pen tip.

The nylon tactical sheath is awesome for it!
The pouch holds my Powerlock nicely!:D

Ron,

I finally found the Rx mark just where you told me to look. I don't think I would have ever found it if you hadn't told me what to look for. It is an amazingly sweet knife.

So how much bigger is the SEAL 2000 than the pup (in qualitative terms)? I know the recent tread on the Tiger Shark said that both are BIG. Now the question is do I need a SEAL more than I need a SEAL revolver:D

Thanks,

It's a fair much bigger with a 7" blade (the PUP is 4.75"). The Tigershark comes in at 9" for those huge tasks.

Oh yes. I forgot to ask Loretta, how much is the nylon sheath? Anyone know?
Going on memory, about $18.50.

The Seal 2000 is alot bigger (and heavier) than the Seal Pup, and the Tigershark is alot bigger than the Seal 2000. Also, due to the larger grip, the Seal 2000 feels "better" (to me) than the Seal Pup.

Of the 3, the Tigershark is MY favorite.
