I disassembled my new Sebenza 21 for the first time today. I was surprised how dirty the grease was on a brand new knife, a dark gray color. Maybe metal shavings? I wiped it all off.

I don't have any fluorine grease like CRK recommends and I usually use White Lightning, but I'm out of that. The only lubricant I have besides Japanese camellia oil is Miltec-1. The camellia oil I use to keep my carbon steel blades from rusting, and it's edible so no worries with cutting food. But I figured it wouldn't be good enough for lubrication.

I've never used Miltec-1 before on a knife but I like the results so far. It seems far more effective than fluorine grease. And according to use with firearms, if you heat cycle the lube a few times and then wipe it clean it will remain on the metal at an atomic level and continue to be an effective lubricant. I heat cycled it once so far with a hairdryer, but didn't wipe it off and probably won't unless it starts seeping out, which I doubt.

Just wanted to share the info.

I'm with ya. I've used Miltec-1 on my Seb's since 2002 with great results. Long-lasting, and smooooooooooth.

Professor.

I'm with you all too. No Sebbie here but Militec-1 is my lube of choice for non-food related knives.

The Japanese camellia oil is really great for knives that are used on food. It's one of the better organic oils, has no taste or smell, according to ABS Master Bladesmith Murray Carter.

Thanks for the tip - never really heard much about it ;)

Miltec-1 is a great lubricant. Don't over think a knife lube. Its not like its a 400hp engine reving at a constant 5,000 rpm's for extended periods.

Camilla oil is nothing more than mineral oil with added fragrance. Fragrance has been added for centuries so Japanese housewives don't accidentally cook with it. You can purchase mineral oil for a lot cheaper than camilla oil. It's foodsafe, so I use it with all my traditional knives, but if you eat too much it has a laxative effect.

Hi Alex...

I like Militec. I've used it for several years and my buddy in AK is using it on his Spyderco folders that he has up there with him. I use CRK grease on my Sebs just because that's their recommendation, but if I was out of it, I wouldn't hesitate to use Militec or MMC. And I always wipe everything down with a Tuff Cloth when I d/a mine before putting them back together with the CRK grease.
