I disassembled my new Sebenza 21 for the first time today. I was surprised how dirty the grease was on a brand new knife, a dark gray color. Maybe metal shavings? I wiped it all off.
I don't have any fluorine grease like CRK recommends and I usually use White Lightning, but I'm out of that. The only lubricant I have besides Japanese camellia oil is Miltec-1. The camellia oil I use to keep my carbon steel blades from rusting, and it's edible so no worries with cutting food. But I figured it wouldn't be good enough for lubrication.
I've never used Miltec-1 before on a knife but I like the results so far. It seems far more effective than fluorine grease. And according to use with firearms, if you heat cycle the lube a few times and then wipe it clean it will remain on the metal at an atomic level and continue to be an effective lubricant. I heat cycled it once so far with a hairdryer, but didn't wipe it off and probably won't unless it starts seeping out, which I doubt.
Just wanted to share the info.
