Gents,

I want to see what you think about this one. A little background first: Purchased this knife new about 6-8 weeks ago. When I received the knife I noticed that it was not centered. I chose not to return the knife for a refund as I looked for this configuration for a while. I spoke to CRK and sent the knife in for centering. The knife was returned but was only marginally better (to my eyes). What do you think? For a knife costing $575 plus shipping I am thinking of returning again. Is it my eyes or is it not centered?

It looks centered to me. If you're not used to framelocks it can appear it's not centered because the lockbar sits closer to the blade then the opposite scale does. Look at the tip, it's right in the middle of the standoff.

I have a 25 and an Umnum and they are equally distanced from the lock side. The only explanation may be the larger ceramic ball in the 25 and Umnum in the closed position forcing the lock bar further from the blade. This is my first 21 so I have nothing to compare it to.

Like Dubya said, I look at the standoff for centering. This is how I check for centering on my Zaan

Centering does look better in the first picture than in the third but that just might be the angle of the photo

That's nothing to worry about, now put it to work!! It looks like it's a little bit off, but if looks like a grind issue (blade symmetry) instead of a blade centering issue.

I would think that if there is no side to side play (but lets be serious) or it's not rubbing..

It's fine.

If you use it then it gets worse from that, then send it off.

I don't see anything wrong with it, dubya is right on in his comment, don't think about it anymore and enjoy it man; I assume that yours has a Damascus blade? Even so, it looks perfectly centered to me, you already sent it to CRK and they would not let it go out if it wasn't like it's supposed to be. I tend to get nutso with little details like that but in this case it looks good, congrats on your new 21! Now go cut something with it:)

Agree on both points.

It's good to be in the company of other neurotics. ;) It's a wonderful knife. I will just use her and move on then. Thanks for the comments all. Here are a few glamour shots.

Now that I see the blade, I changed my mind, it's all messed up, you need to send it to me, I'll fix it for free but it might take a while:)
