Alright everyone, I pulled the trigger and bought a small raindrop damascus sebenza. Looks pretty good, but am still trying to decide if I want to use this beauty... I have a some other chris reeve's knives that I am not hesitant to use, but I guess I will have to get past that on this one.
Anyhow, the new small damascus looks and feels really good. The ball detent makes the blade stick really good while closed, but not enough to make it a pain to open. The knife opens really smooth once it is past the detent. I love the way the small fits into the hand. So, looking at the pictures which small do you like better, man it's gonna be hard putting that damascus into use
And next is the Umnumzaan!!! Well, all I have to say is that this bad boy is badder then I thought. It is one mean mama Jama!! It does have more heft then the sebenza has, and that just makes it feel more like a tank. It really does feel more reliable, though I know they are the same, but I actually like that little bit of weight. The blade screams "Use ME...." And I have no problem using this Zaan.. The sebenza is elegant and flows smooth, yet it has the power underneath all that to do anything. This sucker is just plain mean looking, ready to tear through anything you feed it. I have no desire to own a strider anymore after I have held this in my hand. The Criss cross pattern really makes it stick in your hand. To me, if conan the barbarian had a folder available, this is the beast of a knife he would pick, lol...
The only, and I mean only, negative thing I have to say about the knife is that the part of the handle directly above the top of the lock bar is not chamferd, so it can poke into your hand a little. The sebenzas is chamfered, I don't know why they missed this. Anyhow I will fix this myself, no problem. Also, even though it does not have the bushing as the sebenza, I had no problem putting it back together after cleaning it. I just hand tightened the screw with my fingers and voila, it was back to perfect. No fiddling around with micro inch turns like the benchmades to get them back to normal. I am liking the knife a lot. I still think the larege sebena feels just a wee bit better in the hand, but that is because it is perfect... this feels excellent in the hand also, and once I get rid on the sharp edge mentioned above I believe it will even out. Oh, and there is no difference in weight once the knife is in the pocket.
