Hey guys,

Just picked up my first CRK knife. A small sebenza. I really love this thing.

Sharp, looks great, feels great, and workmanship is superb. Everything seems perfect. Definitely one of (if not) my favorite knives.

I have noticed that the frame lock "rubs" on the blade a little bit when I open/close the knife. I can see some wear starting to form.. How often should I take my sebbie apart and clean it?

How often should I lube it?

I can't emphasize how much I love this knife. It's so smooth (yet stiff, which I look forward to breaking in.) It just feels great and the hand, and feels like a knife made for "me."

Congrat on the new knife. Excellent choice. Are you talking about where the detent ball rubs against the tang of the blade leading into the detent? I have a wear mark on mine but there shouldn't be any undo wear.
Depending on how and where I use mine I take the blade out and clean and lube it every few months. If it is getting used outdoors more or if it starts to feel like it is not opening as smoothly I probably do it more frequently.

Congrats! That wear mark is something I see with every liner/framelock I have, no worries. The frame locks pretty tight on a Seb so the ball-bearing does make its own visual "path". When lubing (I use watchmaking grease quite similar to the CRK-grease) I always make sure to apply a very tiny trace of grease onto that path. Can make a huge difference in a watch (especially in the winding mechanism), should make a difference on a knife as well.

Don't overdo the lubrication; enough is enough. About the breaking-in - a Seb will probably never become real "fast" mainly because of that tight framelock. Do realize as well that the main pivot can be tightened all the way; it's designed to still have smooth action at that point - that's the benefit of CRK's extremely well-balanced tolerances.

During the break in your thumb might not love the knife as much as you do ;)

But they realy are a great knife, lube every month or as you think it needs it, and make sure to use as chris intended...not as a safe queen! On the wear i believe you are talking about the detent and it should not cause any problems....that just kinda polishing its path along the tang

(if my spelling is bad sorry its 4 in the morning and i cant sleep)

Yeah my thumb is definitely aching today!

Stiff, but very smooth. A blast to use! :)

Will probably order some grease from Chris in a couple days.

Thanks guys.

Don't get carried away with the grease!! ;)

A little goes a long way. That tube that they sell will last a lifetime!!

I just use a very little bit of heavy mineral oil to the pivot every couple weeks or so. I dab either my toothpick from a SAK or a paper clip and touch each side of the pivot near the washers. I don't normally break mine down, as I don't think it's needed most of the time.

+1. Too much will actually make it sluggish to open from my experience.
