After debating & agonizing for years, I finally took the plunge and bought a small regular Sebenza last week (knifeworks people were great). Just about everything there is to say about the Sebenza has already been said, but my first impression is that this thing is absolutely built like a tank. A steel crow bar also comes to mind.

After years of gazing at some of the high-end decorative Sebenza models, I never really imagined how rugged a Sebenza would feel. While those decorative models certainly are beautiful, they almost seem like putting chrome on a bulldozer. The name Sebenza (work) certainly seems appropriate – this is a working knife if there ever was one. If there is a tougher folder made, I’d like to see it.

Compared to my Benchmade Axis locks, the Sebenza is a little difficult to open & close. It requires just the right positioning of fingers, which has taken some time to get the hang of. The classic would probably be easier, but I love the feel of the regular.

And it’s funny how after thinking for years that this was WAY too much money to spend on a knife, after finally buying one the price just doesn’t seem like such a big deal anymore. It is just a pleasure to own and use something of the quality and workmanship of a Sebenza.

Congratulations on your first Sebenza!!

The fancy Sebenzas are like putting chrome on a bulldozer. That's what attracted to fancy Sebenzas vs. other fancy knives.

"Chrome on a bulldozer." Great line!

Enjoy your Sebbie. I'm confident you'll be planning additional purchases in no time at all . . .

I just got my first Sebenza, too and I have similar sentiments.

I thought this thing was gonna be daintier than it really is. Boy was I surprised. It's pretty hefty for being so small, and the lock is the stiffest I've ever used. It does take a little bit of learning, because I'm used to having a clip to squeeze on for leverage. The Sebbies clip is only over the lock though, so it squeezes the lockbar...real nice in terms of ergonomics (the clip sinks in with the lock), but a little tricky to operate at first (if you squeeze the clip, you squeeze the lock).

Real tough feeling little thing, though it doesn't look it.

Only complaint is that the edge is a little thick compared to what I'm used to in such a small knife (.023 vs ~.015).

Two words, one person:

Tom Krein

He can make your sebenza perform like it should!
I've thought about it, but I can't even bring myself to use it yet

This is by far the most expensive knife I've ever owned. Perhaps after I buy a second one, I'll send it off to Tom. After all, I see more Sebenzas in my future :D

Scott112, Congratulations on your 1st Seb! You took that big step, ($ and quality). I'll bet it won't be your last one either.

That first step I'll never regret taking. There is something about well carved steel and titanium (wonder why my first love is the art of machine work..?). Congrats on a acquiring a very nice tool, so nice my fourth CRK, which is a Mk VI, is coming today or tomorrow, and as pkdmslf mentions, not likely to be the last.

Every knife nut out there should handle and own at least for a time one Sebbie in his/her life if for no other reason than to know what a great folder is all about and what to look for in the future by having witnessed the standard by which all others are judged.

Amen to that.

Congratulations on your 1st Sebenza! I'll be taking the step very soon (that !@#!% paypal and their transfers). Anyway, enjoy it and try not to cut yourself or shave off noticable amounts of arm hair:thumbup:

Congrats and enjoy!

In no time I had a second Sebenza (large and small regulars),
and now a Hinderer...Egads!

I got my first this week. After a long wait and buildup. Large Sebenza.

Great folder no doubt.

Did it live up to my hyped up unrealistic expectations? Not really.

Is it my new fav? No. The ZT301 still rules.

Would I return for money back it if I could? Given how much money I spent... probably I would.

Sorry, I hope I have not offended anyone here. I know people really love this knife and that it's high quality and all, but I just don't see where the money went on this knife.
