New sebenza screws poor F&F ????

I just received some replacement screws for my sebenza's as the old ones were all marred up with tool marks and ready to strip, and was a little suprised with the fit and finish of the new style male screws ... It seems the machining is quite a bit off as the hex holes are not centered , they don't recess properly in the handle and just look a bit sloppy overall ... Has anyone else experienced this or did I just get some odd balls ???

Comparison shot to see how perfectly flush old screws are!

I can't say but I have a couple of new Sebenzas and the screws are not like that. I'd call and see what they say.

Only an indirect answer to you, but I bet they're not machined - fasteners like that are generally press-formed, sort of "stamped," today. I could be wrong about CCRK parts, but I'd bet I'm not. :(

Ok . I was under the impression stuff like this was done on a lathe , but if they were pressed every screw would look the same !!!!

You're showing the female side for the comparison of the older screws.

Mine are jacked up like yours. Thanks for showing this to me. Now I feel sad.

Along with new screws you also need to give those knives a cleaning.

I only ordered the male screws because the female screws were still fine , but I can assure you the older screws were finished just the same regardless of side ...

Try reversing the screws. I've found that on mine they fit noticeably more flush against the handle slabs.

Don't feel bad, I ordered 3 new male screws for my large sebenza 2 months ago and I noticed the same thing that they don't sit as flush as what it came with. Granted my large regular sebenza is older, the screws should still match up.

Hi there,

I had the same problem on my new large 21, I was disappointed to say the least to receive my first sebbie in that condition. I emailed CRK and they were very understanding, sending out new screws (male and female) without the blemishes, all the way to Australia.. free of charge.

Just one example of their excellent customer service and why I continue to enjoy buying and using their incredible knives.

I have formed the opinion that the fit and finish of the screws on large Sebenzas (have not seen small Sebs of recent production so no valid comment on those) has deteriorated approximately since the introduction of the 21. The male ones often don't sit flush; sometimes they are even off-center like the ones of the OP. Have also seen new-style female ones that weren't hex but round. They also aren't as diligently polished as they were before.

I remember vaguely there was a change in the production of the screws within the last two years. They were sourced from a supplier before but are now made inhouse.

One thing is sure though: Contact CRK and they will set you right.

Best regards,

Daniel

Thanks for the replies ! I'm not sure it makes me feel better that this is a common issue but I will call CRK later today and see if they can help me out. I was honestly suprised at this but knowing how great their CS is I'm sure they will work with me .

FWIW, I have two Seb micartas (large and small) with the new screws and both are totally perfect all the way around...as you'd expect... :)

Thar be something not right with those screws. They look unfinished, like they haven't been polished the way typical CRK screws are. Perhaps they sent you out a set of unpolished screws with burrs underneath the heads that disallow them to countersink into your handles fully?

Something is definitely not right.

With threads like this it really helps CRK keep quality where it should be....i'm sure he really appreciates these type of threads.

Like a few others have said, call CRK and it's fixed...no problem:)

I hope you have contacted them and discussed this with them. I am sure CRK would like to know about things like this!

It is my understanding that the newest version of the screws now have a machined look and are no longer polished. The screws shown in the original post look the same as the ones on my new Small Insingo. You can see the difference here.
