The 5's are really good watches. I've got one from about 14 years ago that still runs very well. I've used it hard and even took it scuba diving once, by accident. No problem!(although I don't recommend anyone trying that agan with a 5). It's also never been serviced.
Now I have a seiko 007 diver and have retired the 5 as a backup should I need it.

Congrats! I was about to get a Seiko 5 myself after hearing all the good things about it but then didnt have to since my friend gave me a Citizen.

Lovely. Great choice! Looks likes an homage to their Grand Seiko GMT

Nice snag- the first Seiko reminds me of a Rolex Explorer II for some reason.

I myself have 3 Seiko watches; my Dad's 26 y.o. Seiko 5, a Seiko 5 Flieger SNK807K2 and a Seiko SKXA35.

Pretty hard to own JUST one, since they are so inexpensive.

FYI(and I know what you mean about Seiko's being very affordable), that Grand Seiko pictured runs around $3,500.

Thanks for the comments! I have always read that Seiko makes quality stuff at a decent price, and I am looking forward to wearing this one!

I came accross one of my old watches. It is a Seiko automatic. It is old enough that is it all mechanical. I gave it a few shakes and it started right up.:D

Back in the late 80's or early 90's, I bought 3 Seiko 5's at a local discount store as Christmas presents. Back then they were about $35 each. All 3 still work, the bracelets have seen better days but they still keep time.
