Randall #1 like blade (second blade I made myself), A2, Mdagascar Rosewood.

Thanks, Vassili.

I agree, that is very well done. The handle contours look very secure and comfortable.

...;was this the A2 blade you had post about earlier with information about the supplier for the various types of steel blanks one can buy? Also I'm interested in how you attached the brass guard to the blade.Low-temperature solder?Pinned? Thanks and good job. :) :)

A2 is widely available and cheap - I bought it from here:

I posted earlier knife I made myself from other blade (it was 4th blade I made myself, this one is 2-nd). I though A2 will be good steel for experiments, it is very good when heattreated by Paul Bos, and relatevely cheap.

For guard I don't use any solder and pins - I try to make hole for tang as close as possible to fit tang and then I just glue handle, tand and guard all together - modern epoxy is enough to keep it together very strong.

Making this hole in the guard is most delicate job, I don't like it at all and just one wrong move - and you have to do this again. I try not to do this if possible, but this one need it for sure.

Thanks, Vassili.

Nice job, did you have a scope work in mind for the knife when you made it, or was it just an attempt to duplicate a known profile?

I like the way that blade is shaped, it looks like convex spearpoint grind on top picture and looks really nice. Maybe it's just the way light reflects off of it but it'sreally cool.

What is scope work? Sorry, even it looks like I know English, but sometimes I don't understrand things.

Initial intention was to make myself knives wich are not available for me for some reason. Well it does not work this way - I can not resist my desier to carve curvy handle out of exotic wood, but at least I it is look in some way as knife I like. This one was made based on Randall #1 blade design. And this is my second blade I made myself.

This is closeups:

Scope of work is a term which generally means, for which tasks is this knife designed to perform. The low sabre grind generally makes a good prybar class knife, but you often see it on knives which are obviously not meant for such use.

OK, Thanks. Yes it was just replica of well known design, without real use in mind. It looks like good fighting knife, but in modern world it has just artistic value - romantic etc. I know only real use for such kind of knives - pig hunting as it is represented by Larry Harley. And as emergrncy tool and emergrncy weapon, which is always with you on the belt outdoor, in case you lost somehow from your camp and proper equipment - guns axes, saws etc. You may fall from the rock, or draged avay by river - sings like this. I dont think even that big knives is good to use around camp (axes and saws much better).

Thanks, Vassili.
